My dog's paw injury returned after meds. Is it serious or needs more time?

That's a fair question, but not one I could fully answer without knowing her case as well as your veterinarian. I'm sure the main reason they want to x-ray your dog again is to check that it healed properly before advising about walking her again. Sometimes these fractures don't heal and will need further treatment. The fact that she doesn't seem painful is encouraging that it has healed well, but it's still possible that it didn't. I think it would at-least be worth it to have her rechecked by your vet. We can often tell a great deal from physical exam. I would then ask your vet how necessary they think the x-ray is. It would be good to ask what the potential complications are and what would be the treatment for those complications. For instance: If Nahla had a non-healing fracture, they might recommend surgery to correct it. If surgery is not a feasible option for you (because of money), then the x-ray would not really be worthwhile. Vets usually offer the best treatment recommendations for their patients, then scale it back as necessary. That's likely the situation here. I hope that helps and Nahla is all healed.

Yes, the circulation was compromised but the nerves could also have been damaged. My hope is that with time the nerves and vessels will return to normal. If B is holding up the foot it is likely painful. The vet can prescribe pain medications to help him feel better. Good luck!

If you haven't been back to the vet since starting antibiotics, I'd recommend going back so they can see how it looks now. You definitely need a vet visit before finishing the antibiotics, since it's not looking healed up. It's possible the wound needs different bandaging methods, different antibiotics, or even surgery to help heal. Good luck!

Since the lameness seems to be reoccurring, I would recommend you bring her into a veterinarian for an examination. Young dogs can often experience many conditions that can cause lameness. These can range from conditions such as panosteitis (growing pains) to congenital conditions such as elbow dysplasia, or OCD lesion of either the shoulder or elbow. Certainly a soft tissue injury (muscle strain or sprain) may also be the culprit. Regardless, it may be nice to see if the veterinarian can determine her "pain point" and localize where her lameness is coming from. They will also be able to give you prescription medications that ma help to ease her discomfort. I hope this information helps, good luck and I hope Luna gets some relief soon! :-)

Hello. Unfortunately, x-rays do not show every kind of injury that can happen, especially when it may involve soft tissues like muscles, ligaments & tendons. A torn or partially torn tendon can take twice as long to heal as a broken bone & you can not tell Bane to take it easy or use crutches. I would give him at least another 4-6 weeks to see if this will heal, especially if he is showing some improvement. Rest & gently exercise are important, so working with a canine rehabilitation medicine specialist, especially if they offer water therapy can be very helpful. If you really want to diagnose the problem, the best solution would be an MRI, as this is how most sports injuries are diagnosed. It may be something to consider & talk to your vet about. The toes looks very swollen. He most likely needs surgery to open the abscess (if that is what it is). It could also be a tumor which is why he is not responding to therapy. Please take him back to your vet for a follow-up. After 10 days he should be better by now.

I am very sorry that Kamilio's paw is so sore! Thank you for providing pictures. With that level of swelling, redness, and hair loss I am very concerned about he infection present. I am sure it's very painful for Kamilo. The first step is to make sure that Kamilo has an e-collar on so he can't lick or bite at the area. When spots are painful or itchy, dogs often want to bite or lick, but this causes increased tissue damage and higher likelihood of infection. You can also try a warm compress for 5 minute intervals throughout the day to ease the swelling and pain. I believe you should continue to the antibiotic course your vet prescribed. I would advise a recheck with the vet however. I am not sure how his paw looked two weeks ago, but this doesn't look like it is healing well. The infection may need a different antibiotic, anti-inflammatory medication, and pain relief. there is also the chance that there is a forgein body stuck inside the paw such as a migrating grass seed.
