Why is my dog panting, shaking, drinking lots after her heat?

Pet's info: Dog | Cocker Spaniel | Female | unspayed | 11 years old | 28 lbs

hello my dog is a 10 year old cocker spaniel and she finished her heat three weeks ago and for the past two weeks she has been panting a lot, shaking, and drinking lots of water resulting in frequent urination. this happened her last heat cycle and went away in about two to three weeks. i'm nor sure if i should be concerned

These signs may be compatible with a uterine infection, which often causes increased drinking levels. The infection can cause accumulation of pus inside the uterus which may not be visible in the initial stages of this problem.
A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.

Why is my dog drinking, peeing, tired, with discharge after heat?

I would have Bella seen by a vet immediately. She could be suffering from a pyometra, which would cause her to be lethargic, shiver from pain, have the brownish discharge, and drink and urinate a lot. A pyometra is fatal without treatment, so she should be seen by a vet now. A UTI or bladder stones are other differentials for her symptoms, but the risk is of a pyometra is high. The vet can do a physical exam, blood tests, urinalysis, and x-rays to diagnose what is causing her symptoms so she can be treated. If she does have a pyometra, spaying her is part of the recommended treatment. Please take her into a vet now.

Differentials are many, from genital or urinary tract or gastrointestinal diseases (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. Why is my unspayed dog sick after heat with dark gums and panting?

You are describing signs of a uterine infection. This is an emergency and Tara must be seen by a vet ASAP, as this kind of infection can cause sepsis and death. Please have her examined by a vet tomorrow at the latest. The vet will give her a thorough clinical exam, may want to do an xray to visualize the uterus and some blood tests. If she indeed is suffering from a pyometra (uterine infection) she may need surgery to remove her uterus, or, in ome case giving her a specific medication called alizine can cause the uterus to expel the pus. Your vet will advise and consult with you according to the clinical findings.
