My dog has pancreatitis, high WBC, and won't eat. Is it stress?

Pancreatitis is a serious disease and a dog can die from it. So you need to give her time to recuperate. It will take more than two days for her to become healthy. Make sure she is hydrated and feed her only small amounts of the gastrointestinal food, but offer it often. Eventually she will start eating better. If she still is wobbly and not improved by Monday you should take her back to the vet for a recheck.

Poor guy. An obstruction is something to consider; however uncommon in older dogs. I would be inclined to look at all the lab findings in detail to give you more specific recommendations on what is likely your next best step for Barrington. If he does have pancreatitis then he may need to be hosptilalized with I.V. fluids, antinausea medicaitons antibiotics and pain meds given as an injection to help get him back to healthy status. Dogs with pancreatitis are incredibly nauseous and very painful. He is likely eating what he feels up to eating. It's ok for a few days until he starts feeling perky again, then you can get him back to his normal dog food.

A GI panel looks for signs of pancreatitis and/or pancreatic insufficiency and also tests cobalamin and folate levels. Since pancreatitis can cause elevated white blood cells it could be related, but any stress or illness can cause a mild increase in the white blood count. Cobalamin and folate can be abnormal with any small intestinal disease, and often cobalamin (Vitamin B12) needs to be supplemented. It sounds like Trixie is getting a thorough workup and hopefully you will determine what has caused her decreased appetite soon.

Feeding him before blood tests is not ideal and can really influence tests results (especially if it is a snap test for pancreatitis). I would recommend to repeat the test with a quantitative one if possible before getting into hospitalisation and treatment which may not be needed.

If his pancreatitis has resolved for a period of time longer than a week or two, it is unlikely that his loss of appetite after playing is related to pancreatitis. However, if he has just recently recovered, there may be some residual pain that may have caused the loss of appetite. I recommend keeping a very close eye on Balto, and having him seen by a vet if he continues to not want to eat or you think he is not acting like himself. Hello, I would expect Walter to still be a bit lethargic and weak at this point. The fact that he is eating, not vomiting, then passing firmer stool is wonderful! This makes me believe he is on the right track for recovery. We worry about blockages when they are not eating, vomiting, and have diarrhea.
