My dog has a painful, red sore between her toes. What should I do?

Hello. My dog has a very bad sore in between her toes. It looks incredibly painful and is red and full of puss. Can you give some insight on it possibly tell me what it is and any at home treatments

It sounds like Cleo's sore has become infected if it's red and full of puss. She could have injured herself, or could have licked the area raw due to irritation. She will need to see a vet for antibiotics for the infection, there are no home remedies for that, and I would have her seen by a vet in the morning. For tonight, you can soak her paw in an Epson salt bath for five minutes.

You can try soaking the paw in some epsom salt solution once a day for up to three days. Make sure to dry well between the toes,. If there is oozing infection, or if it does not get better or gets worse anytime during that time, you should take her to your vet for an exam. She may have a fungal infection, bacterial infection or a foreign body imbedded. There is also a possibility that she is suffering from allergies. Your veterinarian will do a skin exam and should be able to pinpoint a cause and then initiate proper treatment.

I would recommend applying a topical medication such as zymox topical ointment and apply to the area until resolved. I'm sorry Juicy is in such pain! Unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done at home for it. You can try soaking her paw in an Epson salt bath to see if that helps with any swelling, but there are no human pain relievers you can give her. That's because many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. It sounds like her paw could be infected if it's red and inflamed, and it's also concerning to me that she's screaming in pain. In my opinion, the best thing to do is to have her seen by a vet tonight. The vet can diagnose what is causing her paw to be red and inflamed, and can treat her for it along with pain medications.

My dog's paw pad is sore. What are the best at-home treatments?

Try soaking it in some warm water with Epsom salt if he will allow it-- this is easiest to do by putting the water and epsom salt in a plastic bag and putting his paw into the plastic bag. If you can do this for about 10 minutes or so, that may help if he has any debris , sticker, grass seed, etc that is embedded in the skin. If he is licking at it, be sure to put an Ecollar (cone of shame) on him. Dry it with a towel then allow to air dry, then you can use this product on it: If it is not improving within a couple of days, take him in to your vet. Thanks for asking PetCoach!

My dog has sores between his toes. What is it and how to treat?

This is called pododermatitis. There are interdigital cysts between the toes that can get infected. I recommend soaking the feet in a warm epsoms salt twice daily to draw out the infection. Also use a cone to prevent Opie from licking his feet. If the sores are not drying up and healing then he should get a veterinary exam and mostly likely they will prescribe a course of antibiotics. What natural home remedies can I use for my dog's sore paws?

If pododermatitis is related to an environmental allergy, wiping the feet with a washcloth every time your pet comes in from going outdoors can help limit exposure to allergens. I also sometimes recommend soaking the feet in warm water with some Epsom salts. Many times antibiotics or antifungals are necessary so if Buster's feet are very red or painful or if you notice sores you should see your veterinarian.
