Why does my dog have a painful red bump on their anal area?

  Your pet sounds like she has an inflamed or infected anal gland. This condition is very painful and makes it difficult to defecate or even move. Without treatment, the gland may rupture, causing a open wound on your pet's rear that will require wound care and antibiotics as well as some pain relief.
  
  I recommend getting your pet seen by your vet. They will express the material from the anal glands (which is very smelly), clean her up and possibly start her on antibiotics. You can ask them to show you how to express the anal glands yourself at home so you can avoid impaction or infection in the future.

  Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It looks like Mable has an infection in one of her anal glands. These are the same glands skunks have that they use to spray that smell. In dogs they use the glands to mark their stools and sometimes they can get infected. Mable’s gland will need to be drained and flushed with antibiotics and she will need to be put on oral antibiotics and pain medications as it is painful. If your regular vet isn’t open I would take her to an emergency one. Good luck and kisses to Mable!

  It looks as if Chloe has an anal gland abscess. These typically need to be expressed or lanced, oftentimes under sedation because it can be very uncomfortable.
  
  She will likely need pain medication and antibiotics to help her get well.
