My puppy has a painful groin. How can I get him to walk again?

Ouch! That area does look a bit sore and very irritated. I would keep your pup from licking at it which can cause more pain and irritation, and use a clean washcloth to keep the area clean and dry which can help it heal. If he seems in a lot of pain, bringing him to your vet is best so they can provide pain medications or antibiotics as needed if the area appears infected.

Your puppy may have an injury in his back, hips or knees, or something going on in his abdomen that is causing his pain. Because he is so young and there could be many different causes of his discomfort. I would recommend taking him into the vet to be examined as soon as possible. This could be skin irritation/infection but it could also be subcutaneous bleeding (which can be serious). I strongly suggest you have him examined by a vet. Oh poor Dante! Absolutely you can ice the area, do it for 5-10 minutes at a time. Be sure it to give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and are fatal if given. Rest him and keep him as quiet as possible. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in. If he's still limping on Monday, I would have him seen by a vet.

Hi! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It does sound like something is causing Spyro to be in some form of discomfort or pain. There are so many possible conditions that can cause pain that it all really starts with a good thorough physical examination to try to localize the discomfort and then proceed with the appropriate diagnostics based on that which may include radiographs and/or general labwork. At the very least pain control medications could be prescribed by your veterinarian. Keep him quiet in the meantime. Good luck!

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I don’t think that looks like a bite wound. It looks more like a growth that has ruptured. I recommend having a vet look at it. If he is licking it, it is infected and needs antibiotics. If he isn’t walking and he is licking it, it is painful. A closer look by a vet may locate a cause. Good luck and kisses to Guero!
