My dog has painful green discharge near testicles. Help before vet?

Testicular torsion is excruciatingly painful and requires surgery. Testicular cancer, and scrotal hernia are also on my list of things to rule out. The green/yellow discharge can actually be normal in in-tact male dogs but could also signal an infection or urinary problem. All in all, it's worth talking to your vet about it again. A certain amount of discharge, especially in intact male dogs, may be normal. This discharge is known as smegma. If there is an increased amount or if you notice a foul odor, excessive licking and difficulty urinating, then it may be that he has an infection either in the [urinary tract](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/utis-in-dogs) or under the prepuce. Take him to your regular vet when they open for an examination and diagnosis. They will be able to provide appropriate pain relief and treatment.

Hello. The skin irritation is probably from being shaved too close, or possibly even from the shampoo not being completely rinsed from the skin. I would bathe Uno in cool water, no soap & gently dry him. The discharge from his prepuce could be a normal secretion called smegma. It could also be balanoposthitis, inflammation of the glans penis & prepuce with excessive preputial discharge. While mild cases can be self-limiting, more severe cases can lead to abscess formation & scarring. Hello! The best thing to do is to keep the area clean with warm water. If he is not improving, your best bet is to take him in. Sorry, there isn't too much that can be done at home for this sort of thing!

It doesn't sound like a bacterial infection is for sure the cause, so recommending just treating this with an antibiotic (which usually has to be prescribed by your vet) is not the best course of action here. Also a picture of the area would help somewhat. However, I can understand your financial situation. I would recommend reposting your question with a picture of the testicles first. Odors can be caused by bacterial or fungal infections in pets. You can try washing him with an aloe based or oatmeal based shampoo (from your local pet store) and then applying a thin layer of Neosporin to the testicles once every 12 hrs. However, if the area does not improve, then a vet visit is the next best course of action. He likely will need to have this area tested with a skin impression to collect cells from the surface. This will help determine what kind of infection is present (bacterial or fungal) so that we know what course of treatment is needed to clear things up. Also most skin infections will require oral antibiotics only available through a licensed veterinarian. I'm glad you tried the oatmeal. In looking at the pictures you provided, Timmy's penis looks irritated and there may be some infection there. Given he's so uncomfortable, I think having him seen by a vet now would be best. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. You can try to use chlorhexidine containing pads (such as the Douxo chlorhexidine 3% PS pads) to clean the are twice daily for 7 days. You may find these online or at your local pet store. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment.
