Is Optimune for dry eye causing glaucoma or conflicting with Dorzolamide?

Hi there! I am assuming you are using Optimmune for dry eye? If so, there is often an eye infection as well that is brewing, due to having low tears. Because of this, I strongly recommend that you see a vet sooner, rather than later, as there are likely to be additional medications that can help your dog's eyes.

Dry eye can result in the discharge in the picture you posted and can require more than just Artificial Tears to treat. (That would be more common than an allergy problem especially since only one eye is affected.) Hello, thank you for your question about Kavi. Overall I would say the need for preventative medication in the other eye is somewhat dependent on what the underlying cause of the glaucoma was. Additionally, taking it to account the current pressure in his remaining eye would be important in deciding the need for these ocular medications. If the pressure is high normal or has been trending upward, I think these medications are beneficial. If you would like more information or would like more information about the underlying cause/current pressure in his eye you could get a second opinion from another veterinarian. However, this may change depending on the severity of the glaucoma and clinical results achieved. I would defer to your veterinarian for dosing protocols and instructions.

This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. Since Toby has not improved on his medications, I highly recommend that you have Toby reevaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. The general answer to your question is yes. The caveats are that Timolol comes in 2 different strengths, so you need to make sure that the combination product is the same strength that he is currently gettting. The other thing you need to discuss with your veterinarian is that since he is getting Dorzolamide 3 times a day and Timolol only twice daily is if you will still need to keep a separate bottle of Dorzolamide for the 3rd daily dosing. You can safely use OTC tear gel lubricant for keeping the cornea moist, but it won't cure uveitis or an ulcer or any kind of inflammatory process going on. Sometimes a warm water compress with a clean washcloth is helpful when the eye is painful as well. Angel may have a very painful process like glaucoma going on, so if she continues to be squinty you really need a diagnosis by a vet. Any pharamacist can help you find a gel lubricant for eyes that is sold over-the-counter.
