My pit bull has oozing, bleeding neck spots and hair loss. What is it?

It looks like she has a hot spot that is infected. Have her examined by a vet for treatment. Your vet can shave the area and clean it with an antiseptic wound cleaner. She may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, corticosteroid to help treat. You can also bathe her with a medicated dog shampoo and see if that helps.

I am so sorry to hear about Rocky. Based on your photo I suspect he has what we call a "hot spot" or acute moist pyoderma. This is a bacterial infection of the skin and can be painful and itchy. Most often we treat these by shaving and cleaning the area then prescribing a course of antibiotics and steroids. Hopefully with treatment Rocky will be back to normal soon!

Without pictures and without examining Shadow myself it is difficult to say what the problem is. If you are seeing round areas of hair loss, this could be due to ringworm, a bacterial skin infection or potentially skin parasites such as Demodex. I would have this looked at by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps!

The first picture looks like a large series of insect bites all in one location. If Jackson has been sticking his head in any weird areas where something like that could happen, that would be a reasonable guess as to the cause of the lesions. Determining with certainty the cause of the rash is not easy without significant diagnostic testing including skin scrapings and cytology at minimum. I think that the swelling and the affected area still look bad enough that Jackson could probably benefit from a systemic antibiotic to address the skin, as well as a topical ointment with both antimicrobial / anti-inflammatory properties to help with the swelling and redness. If the area has been itchy even a little bit, Jackson should be wearing an e-collar to prevent any further damage (and as a result delayed healing) to the area in question. As far as things she can do at home if the vet is not an option, use of betadine and a over the counter steroidal cream would both be beneficial. You can obtain an e-collar through your vet or a pet store, or you can even make a home made one ( there are lots of videos available on YouTube on how best to do this). Hope this helps!

Poor Romeo! Skin problems in dogs are usually related to allergies. Humans display allergies in our eyes and noses, but dogs do so in their skin. The top allergies are flea, food and inhalant. Flea allergies typically cause hair loss and itchiness on the back 1/3 of the dog especially around the tail. Food can cause ear problems and general skin issues. Inhalant tend to be on the legs and the abdomen and sometimes ears. When a dog has allergies, the skin isn't as healthy so it can't fight off the normally occurring yeast and bacteria on the skin, so they tend to get secondary bacterial or yeast infections. I am concerned that Romeo might have a secondary infection. Inhalant allergies tend to start from 3-5 years of age and tend to get worse... I recommend taking him to a veterinary and get a thorough exam. They will most likely do some diagnostics like a skin impression smear (push a slide on skin and check under a microscope), skin scrape (for mites) and a fungal culture. After they do that, they will discuss a treatment plan with you. Please have patience, there is not one plan that works for all allergy dogs. It is sometimes trial and error to find what works.... Kind of like it is for human allergies. :- ) Allergies can not be cured, only controlled. Communication is very important with your veterinarian to let them know what works and what doesn't. These spots could be due to a underlying skin infection or a skin mite called demodex. If there are only the 3 small spots you can try to treat them topically at home with neosporin. If they sites do not resolve or if you begin to notice more spots I would recommend taking Maddox to the vet to be checked out.
