One of my dog's ears is standing up, the other is floppy. Normal?

This might be a sign of a possible otitis (inflammation of the ear canal), but unless there is any sign of discomfort like scratching or shaking his head, there is no need to be worried about. You can have a look on the inside of the pinna (the external part) to see if there is any redness or swelling but otherwise I would not be worried about this sign. Sometimes this can be contributed to developmental factors and the cartilage in the ear becomes more firm in a particular position. Sometimes an ear infection can cause an ear to lay differently then the other. Oh my, Gemma is beyond adorable! It could be there is a problem with her ear such as an ear infection causing one to be down. I wouldn't be concerned about it, but it is something that I would have checked out by a vet. If she does have an ear infection, the vet can diagnose the cause of it (ear mites, yeast, bacteria), and can treat her for it. If she doesn't have an ear infection, it may be her ears are naturally like that, which would be so cute! I'd make an appointment for her with the vet on Monday. Good luck, I hope this helps!

If your dog is shaking her head and flapping her ears than she may have an ear infection or allergy. You can look in her ears to see if she has any redness, discharge or odor. If she continues to flap her ears, she is at risk of getting an ear hematoma so she should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and needed treatment.

If there is no sign of inflammation, discomfort, swelling, redness or discharge this is a normal pigmentation of the skin and there is no need for a vet consultation or to be worried about. Hello, I think that is how Harley is going to have his ears. Its unlikely he has had an ear infection for that long if he has not been shaking his head, scratching at his ears non-stop, or developing a head tilt, crying or whining in pain, or if he doesn't have discharge with a foul smell. All of these are signs of an ear infection. Harley may continue to have that bend in his hears as his normal self. As the cartilages develop fully, he may change the appearance of his ears, but at 9 months, he may not change them. If you note any of the above signs, then Harley should be seen by a veterinarian to have his hears checked. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Well Marshall is about the cutest thing I have seen in awhile! If the injury on his ear caused a lot of build up of scar tissue, this could weigh down the ear a bit. Or if there is a build of fluid you may see the same result. I would recommend to have your vet do an exam to ensure there is nothing that needs to be done to help intervene. Either way, he is truly adorable with those big brown eyes.
