Can my Labrador nurse Husky puppies if she hasn't given birth?

My female husky gave birth to 4 puppies.. her milk isn't sufficient for the puppies.. my question is that can we feed the puppies milk of a Labrador.. we have a Labrador n she is producing a lot of milk but she hasn't given birth..

Yes, the puppies can have milk from either source, though it is unlikely that your Labrador is making milk until after she has her own puppies. Milk production is hormonally regulated, and the proper milk producing hormones won't be made until she goes into labor. Right now she is making colostrum, which won't be enough for the Husky puppies. You can supplement with puppy milk replacer. It is important that you start measuring each puppies weight in grams on a small kitchen scale so that you can make sure they are gaining weight every day.

How can I help my nursing dog produce enough milk for puppies?

If you haven't yet, transition her to a quality puppy food. Feed her this diet until she weans the litter then transition slowly back to an adult maintenance diet. Provide plenty of fresh water as well. If necessary, you can supplement the pups with a puppy milk replacer such as Esbilac or Pet Lac. Either may be purchased from your veterinarian or the local Petco.

In some bitches it takes a while to produce milk once the puppies latch on the nipples. Hello. Often the milk will not start flowing until a dog actually enters the stages of labor. The act of giving birth & the hormones that are released at parturition will stimulate milk to come down. If no milk is seen after the puppies are born, Simba may need an injection of oxytocin, but this would be very unusual.
