My picky Bichon Frise won't eat kibble and is losing weight after diarrhea.

Diarrhea doesn't mean Panfilo is going to die. I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he refuses to eat the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.

I would recommend having Koa examined by a vet. This is highly abnormal. Chicken and baby food is not the proper nutrition long-term, these types of diets should only be used for a few days to a couple weeks at a time as a way to rest an irritated GI tract, and it likely doesn't include enough calories or fat to maintain or gain body weight. After examination and a discussion of Koa's medical history, the vet can recommend appropriate diagnostics to determine what could be going on.

I strongly recommend you arrange a full health check for Kikko to ivestigate medical reasons as to why he is not absorbing the nutrition he requires and also contact a nutritionist for advice on correct formulation of homecooked diets if you do not wish to feed a fully baalnced dog food. I would be concerned that uncooked rice, vegetables and meat may not be providing enough digestible nutrition for him at the moment.

I recommend to call the previous owner and ask if he has always been finicky or if this is out of character. Also make sure to feed the same diet he was eating at his original home. It can be normal for some dogs to be picky eaters, especially if they are rewarded with human food if they wait long enough. It is not normal however for Yuki to be losing weight. I would recommend seeing your veterinarian to rule out a medical problem first - if she seems otherwise healthy you can then discuss trying to find a commercial dog food that she likes (canned food might be an option), or discuss talking to a nutritionist to formulate a balanced home cooked diet.

Weigh loss causes are multiple: insufficient food intake, increased exercise, anorexia, diseases affecting the intestine/pancreas/liver, infections, tumors....To exclude all the health related causes of weight loss a vet check up would be needed. If everything health wise is in order I would recommend to check if the amount of food he is getting is enough for his weight; consider to adjust the dose if needed and/or change the diet completely. He could have a number of things going on here that can cause chronic diarrhea and weight loss including: malabsorption, inflammatory bowel disease, an endocrine disorder, or even neoplasia (intestinal lymphoma) has to be considered. I would suggest starting with an abdominal ultrasound to evaluate the intestinal lining for any masses or abnormalities. I would also consider getting him on a hypoallergenic prescription diet such as Royal Canin hypoallergenic hp or Hill's Z/D.
