Why is my dog so hungry but losing weight on his homemade food?

I would recommend having Koa examined by a vet. This is highly abnormal. Chicken and baby food is not the proper nutrition long-term, these types of diets should only be used for a few days to a couple weeks at a time as a way to rest an irritated GI tract, and it likely doesn't include enough calories or fat to maintain or gain body weight. After examination and a discussion of Koa's medical history, the vet can recommend appropriate diagnostics to determine what could be going on.

It can be normal for some dogs to be picky eaters, especially if they are rewarded with human food if they wait long enough. It is not normal however for Yuki to be losing weight. I would recommend seeing your veterinarian to rule out a medical problem first - if she seems otherwise healthy you can then discuss trying to find a commercial dog food that she likes (canned food might be an option), or discuss talking to a nutritionist to formulate a balanced home cooked diet.

I recommend to have Panfilo examined by the veterinarian. A healthy dog is not expected to starve itself to the point of weight loss. They will eat when they get hungry enough. Weight loss is worrisome for things like kidney disease, cancer or heavy parasite burdens. Since he cannot talk and tell you what he is feeling, it's best to play it safe. Also, the diet you were feeding may not be balanced. Over time an unbalanced diet can lead to problems in the body. I recommend to discuss either having a balanced home made diet by a veterinary nutritionist or getting Panfilo on a fortified commercial dog kibble. I hope this helps.

This is not a balanced diet. There are minimal minerals and vitamins (especially Calcium and Phosphorus) and over time, this can affect the body. I don't recommend to make pet food at home unless you have a consultation with a veterinary nutritionist. This is the only way to make a nutritionally balanced diet. When the recipes found on line were tested, 97% were found to be unbalanced. Weight loss is always worrisome because it can indicate anything from worms to cancer. I recommend to have Barney examined by the veterinarian. He will need his stool tested and blood work. I also recommend to begin feeding him a balanced dog food asap. Weigh loss causes are multiple: insufficient food intake, increased exercise, anorexia, diseases affecting the intestine/pancreas/liver, infections, tumors....To exclude all the health related causes of weight loss a vet check up would be needed. If everything health wise is in order I would recommend to check if the amount of food he is getting is enough for his weight; consider to adjust the dose if needed and/or change the diet completely. Good quality commercial diets (Hill's, Royal Canin) are definitively the best choice to make sure you provide all the nutrients Pancake needs.
