Dog not eating, sudden weight gain, and very thirsty. Is it serious?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Dogs that are not eating and drinking and look very thin and suddenly very thin are very sick. The biggest concern would be a 'foreign body'- a sock/underwear/toy that is stuck in the gut, preventing any food from being taken in and absorbed. Other concerns would be severe gastritis, a high worm burden (parasite infection), cancer in the gut, lack of enzyme production in the pancrease, and some other causes. I recommend getting your girl to a vet right away however, as it sounds like she is very sick. Best of luck with her!

There are many causes of inappetance so it is hard to say for sure what the cause is in Chester. Something is bothering him but without examining him and without testing, I cannot say for sure what it is. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. You really need to have Sinba evaluated to see if there is some inflammatory disease like exocrine pancreatic insufficiency ( epi ), an infection, either viral or parasitic, or even a foreign body causing his symptoms. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Some dogs are compulsive drinkers and behaviorally will drink non-stop if allowed. If she is also urinating a lot and is underweight I’d recommend a vet exam, blood work and fecal testing. I’d assume at her young age the drinking excessively is behavioral. If she isn’t active and not in the heat limit her water intake a bit. As for her appetite if she is underweight then I’d be concerned for parasites or a digestive disorder. Shepherds can be affected by pancreatic insufficiency and inflammatory bowel disease. If she is underweight then increase her food by 25% every 2-4 weeks until she had has ideal body condition. The description that you gave of Jex sounds very concerning. I would get him into a veterinarian for a thorough exam. He most likely will need some diagnostics to find out what is going on. There is a chance that he has eaten something foreign that has caused a partial obstruction, he could have pneumonia, and there are lots of other possibilities by the description that you have given. It sounds like he needs immediate care if he is not eating, he is lethargic and may have a fever. This sounds like a serious condition that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.
