Why is my dog not eating with a 104 fever and possible parasite?

A fever this high is usually indicative of a bacterial or viral disease going on. Your veterinarian will need to run some tests to try and determine the cause of the fever. Once the cause is identified the proper antibiotics, antifungals, or antipruritic drugs can be prescribed. The tablet given to your dog is basically a fever reducer but will not treat the cause of the fever. I would recommend taking your dog in for a recheck as soon as you’re able to. Hi, I would recommend that Sandy is rechecked and that you explain to your vet the difficulties you are experiencing. What is causing this temperature ? It’s impossible and useless to give oral medications to a dog that is vomiting. Ask your vet where does he think the source of infection is. In the meantime offer Sandy small amounts of water little and often and keep in a cooler place. Hope this helps.

Poor guy. Not every pet with a fever has an infection, so if the antibiotic isn’t working it’s either because there is no infection, the infection is internal, or the antibiotic is not the right kind of antibiotic for the infection. Your pet needs additional testing to sort this out and make sure we are on the right track with treatment. I would start with baseline bloodwork and a urinalysis. Best to take your pet back in to your vet or to another vet for a second opinion here so that we can get a proper diagnosis and tailored treatment based on your pets specific problem. It sounds like he needs immediate care if he is not eating, he is lethargic and may have a fever. This sounds like a serious condition that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. If Monaco still has a temperature that has increased to over 40 degrees Celsius, he may have an infection or inflammation elsewhere that is unrelated to him ingesting some of your female Samoyed's hair. Especially if his appetite is decreased, and he has had some abnormal GI signs, I recommend having him seen by your veterinarian. He/she can perform a physical exam and may recommend bloodwork to look for any underlying cause of his fever. Otherwise, if he is acting normally at home (normal appetite, drinking, urination and defecation, and is not vomiting or having diarrhea), he may likely be OK and you can monitor him at home. I am sorry to hear he is not feeling well. I would highly encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian as soon as possible. Young puppies need nutrition and will Parrish quickly without it. Viral infections such as parvovirus can cause fever and inappetance as well as many other possibilities. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Biggie! I don't personally hold much stock in nose dryness/wetness or the temperature of the nose. To know if Biggie has a fever you need to take his temperature rectally with a digital thermometer. A fever in a dog is anything over 102.5 F. There are many causes for a poor appetite: Viral infection, foreign body, fever from infection or inflammation, intestinal parasites (the eggs are microscopic and can not be seen in the stool unless adult worms are passed), pain and many many other causes. Try taking Biggie's temperature. If he has a fever I recommend making an appointment today with your Vet. I hope this helps and I wish Biggie a speedy recovery!
