My dog home from parvo, not eating/drinking, panting. Is this normal?

Yes, this sounds like it's probably normal. Parvo is a serious disease, and it will take time for her to get her energy back and be fully recovered. As long as she is eating and drinking, and has not been vomiting, I would just give her some time. She should be back to her old self within the next few days :)

Parvo is typically accompanied by profuse vomiting and diarrhea although can be preceded by a short phase of fever and weakness. Poor appetite can be caused by many things including fever and dental pain and should be investigated by a vet if persisting longer than 24hours in puppies. If you did not receive vaccination paperwork I would be cautious and consider restarting course once he is well again

It sounds like your puppy is extremely sick, and parvovirus can take a few weeks for a dog to fully recover. It's very concerning he is not drinking as dehydration is the number one cause of death in these animals. He should see a vet again immediately, please take him into one now. Best of luck.

I'm glad to hear that Ruger is recovering! Yes, it's normal for him to still be tired and sleepy at this point - he's been very sick for several days, and it will take time for him to get his energy back. It's very common for puppies to not have a bowel movement for a few days when they haven't been eating - if nothing is going in, then there's nothing there to come out :) Even though he's eating again now, it will take 2-3 days for any poop to be formed - so I wouldn't worry about this at all. He will poop when he's ready. The yelping means that his stomach is probably still a bit sore - this is to be expected, given the severity of his illness. It may take several more days for him to be completely back to normal, so be patient and give him time to recover.

If your dog is recovering from parvo you should not be offering any foods other than his regular diet or bland meals of boiled rice and chicken as the other foods may cause the already irritated intestinal lining to become worse or prolong the irritation. If he is not eating his food there may still be some underlying pain or GI upset. You can offer a bland meal of boiled rice and chicken for a day or so, however if the lack of appetite continues or he does not begin to eat his food it is best to seek veterinary care.

Poor Shadow! I'm glad he's getting treatment from the vet, and I hope he does recover. It's normal that he won't eat, as he's feeling pretty sick, and it may take him some time to want to eat again. As for the bowel movements, if he's not eating, there will be nothing for him to pass at the moment. It takes about a week or so for the infection to run its course. Ace may shed virus for weeks afterwards. A good percentage of puppies that survive the first 3 or 4 days of infection usually recover. Without a physical exam, we cannot say if he is recovering or not. Continue to medicate him as directed by your veterinarian. Make sure Ace is eating and drinking. You can offer unflavored PediaLyte or your vet can show you how to administer subcutaneous fluids. Be sure to sanitize or discard bedding, toys, bowls, etc. Keep him isolated from other unvaccinated puppies.
