My dog won't eat, drink, and has difficulty pooping. What's wrong?

I am very concerned about Pilly, it sounds like he has a very upset stomach! My top concern would be a blockage in his intestines caused by something that he ate, like a toy, bone, sock, trash, etc. This would also prevent food from moving through his system and turning into feces. Other possibilities include bacterial or viral infection, intestinal parasites, or other internal issue. I recommend that Pilly see a vet as soon as possible. Your vet will probably recommend x-rays and maybe even blood work depending on what they discover during the physical exam.

Poor Woodrow. He sounds very sick and likely has an internal illness that requires testing and treatment through your vet. There are so many possible causes for lack of appetite, including liver disease, kidney disease, infection or pancreatitis just to name a few. We need to first have some bloodwork done on him to see if that shows any clues as to why he is ill. He may need additional testing if the bloodwork doesn't reveal anything. I would make it a point to take him in to your vet within the next 24-48 hrs if possible. Until then continue to offer him boiled plain chicken and rice or tuna and rice to see if you can keep him nourished. I would also offer Pedialyte (non-flavored) diluted with water to try and keep him hydrated. I hope that things work out for your pet Woodrow and that he has a full and speedy recovery. If Morty is crying in pain, unable to eat or pass feces I would be very concerned about a gastrointestinal blockage. This can occur when a dog eats something they shouldn't have, articles of clothing, rawhide, toys or even fruit cores. The foreign body then becomes lodges in the stomach or intestines and forms a blockage. With pressure building up and constructed blood vessels this becomes a life threatening emergency. For this reason I would advise taking Morty straight to the veterinarian. The vet will perform an examination to see if a blockage may be present. If they suspect one an X-ray will likely be done to identify its location and to make a treatment plan. Best of luck to you both. Again I am so sorry Morty is experiencing this.

It's good that Milo ate the food with water in it. It may be he's dehydrated leading him to not poop. Continue to add water to his food, and hopefully he will poop today. If he has not by tomorrow morning, then I would take him into the vet to get checked out. Best of luck.

Your dog needs to be seen by your vet as soon as possible. Any abrupt change in behavior or attitude is a sign he's not feeling well, and without an exam from a vet there's no real way to know what's going on and therefore, how to treat it. He could have eaten something he shouldn't have that's causing an obstruction or irritation, he could have been exposed to something toxic that you weren't aware of, there's a number of possibilities. Your vet will do an exam, lab work, possibly x-rays if indicated, and based on these results, your vet will be better able to understand what is going on with your dog and how best to treat him.

I'm sorry to hear that Buddy is not feeling well. If a dog is very constipated oftentimes they will stop eating because they have an overall feeling of fullness. Since I don't know what other medications Buddy is on it is hard to know what to recommend in this instance. Of course calling or taking him to see your vet that prescribed the medication would be a good starting point. If you are unable to do that at this time some things you can do at home are making sure he's drinking plenty of water (because sometime dehydration can lead to constipation) and trying to get him to eat something with a lot of fiber such as canned pumpkin. If these suggestions aren't working I would take Buddy in to see your vet. Sometimes there is a serious underlying problem to constipstion and you dog may need fluid therapy, an enema and/or a diet change.

Tricia is experiencing very general symptom of disease, this symptom could fit almost any internal condition, maybe she is suffering from nausea due to a gastrointestinal disease and maybe he is in pain, from the symptoms described it's very hard to know. i would recommend taking her to the vet as soon as possible in order to get her checked, if he doesn't show any other obvious symptoms during the examination, a blood test and possibly an ultrasound will be needed in order to try and find out what is wrong with Tricia.
