My dog won't eat for 5 days after vet visit. What's the next step?

That duration of inappetance is very concerning. Did you family vet prescribe some therapy, anti nausea medication? It sounds like your kid needs to see a specialist. For a case like this an internal medicine specialist would be the best person to see. A full abdominal ultrasound with an experienced ultrasonographer (either a radiologist or internist) is likely the first step if blood work and xrays are normal. Unfortunately some pets cases are complex and some disease processes require more advanced testing then what family vets can provide. Likely your family vet has ruled out some common things but an internist will look for the uncommon things. Unfortunately decreased appetite is a very non specific symptom because in animals when they do not feel good for any reason they can stop eating. I am so sorry to hear that Doggy is sick. But not eating is a very general sign of illness and she needs bloodwork anlaysis + urinalysis to look at her body systems to determine what the underlying cause of her ailment is. Also she is an older dog so neoplasia (cancer) has to be considered if all her labs come back negative, at which point further testing like an ultrasound or radiograph would be indicated. Your pet is very sick and will need proper testing to find the cause and hopefully there is a treatment specific to her disease condition available that can hopefully give her a good quality of life back. If her prognosis is deemed poor based on the findings, then palliative care (meds to make her comfortable from your vet) may be her best option.

For a dog that usually eats well, 5 days is getting a little long to let it go. I would recommend that you have Panda checked out by a vet to see what could be going on. There are so many things that could be causing his vague symptoms, including pain, infection, intestinal issues (including obstruction), among many others. After physical examination and a thorough medical history discussion, your vet may recommend treatment, bloodwork, or x-rays to see what could be going on.

I would take a flash light and look through her mouth really well. Including under her tongue. I have had a few cases over the year with painful wounds hidden in the mouth. Also, I assume the x-rays were of her abdomen? If she continues to not eat then I would also take an x-ray of her chest to make sure she doesn’t have an infection or something else going on there. The chest is a place problems can hide. In addition, upper intestinal partial obstructions can be very difficult to prove on x-rays. If we continue to have no answer I would ask for either a barium series or an abdominal ultrasound. She is young and an intestinal foreign object is high on my list of possibilities. It sounds as Julie is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti nausea injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.

Sasher does sound pretty sick if she hasn't eaten for three days, and unfortunately anorexia is a general sign of many different illnesses. Things that could be causing this include dental disease, liver failure, kidney failure, heart disease, systemic illness, injury, or cancer to name some. The sooner you get her into the vet, the better. I'd take her now. Best of luck.

If the medication being given isn't helping and Sushi has been refusing food and water for nearly a week it is best to bring her back to your vet ASAP. It is possible there is an infection that requires different or IV antibiotics to target it, and IV fluids and other treatment are needed to help with dehydration and loss of appetite.
