My dog isn't drinking water for 3 days. Is clear urine normal?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Urine can look deceptively clear, but still be perfectly normal. The only way to know for sure is to collect a sample of urine in a clean container & take it to your vet ( or take Scribbles to the vet for a complete check up ). We can do a quickie urinalysis that includes a measure of the dissolved solids in urine. This is a very good indication of what her overall kidney function might be. But as long as she has resumed eating & drinking, it is not an emergency, but at her age, a good check up might be in order. Take care.

This depends on a lot of factors including if she is otherwise exhibiting any symptoms of sickness, if she is eating canned food which already has water in it, how much water she is actually having, among other things. If she is not drinking anything especially if having other symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite and/or lethargy, she should be evaluated as soon as possible to prevent dehydration and to investigate the cause. If she is otherwise doing well and is eating canned food, it would be ok to monitor her for another 12-24 hours and if not improved to have her evaluated by a veterinarian then. Hopefully she returns to normal and there is no need for a veterinary visit. Have a great day!

She may not have a drive to drink if she received iv fluids during her procedures and you are meeting what she needs through her diet. If she is otherwise happy with normal appetite and energy level and no vomiting or diarrhea you can continue monitoring. If any of these change in addition to not drinking then that would be more concerning as dehydration could ensue. This is an emergency and the dog needs to see a vet doctor as soon as possible. Not urinating for two days indicates that Joy either has a blockage, or he has kidney failure. Both, if left untreated, are painful and can quickly lead to death. I recommend taking Joy to a vet as soon as possible to get this treated.

The urine output will be masdibely down if he is not drinking. As long as the bladder isnt blocked not urinating is not an issue, but the issue is why he is not urinating. He must be really dehydrated and this is bad for his organs, but especially the kidneys. I would go to your vet asap as this is not normal. He may have issues since the anaesthetic or just be really sore.

His urine is very dilute from drinking lots of water. If he had a problem with his kidneys, you could see blood in his urine, peeing multiple times but in small amounts, lethargy, and possibly a loss of appetite. I hope this helps!

Very dilute urine can be a sign of good hydration, however it can also be a sign of kidney function decrease. The kidneys are in charge of the boys' fluid reserves, however if they start to decline they can stip being able to concentrate urine. This is less likely in a fog of Oliver's age. If you notice only clear urine for a week I would advise taking him to the veterinarian for blood work to check kidney function. If it fluctuates bwteeen normal color and clear it less likely anything of concern.
