Why isn't my dog drinking, shivering, and having bad breath?

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am glad that Winter seems to be acting fine. If she isn't very active she may not need much water. If she is playing or the weather is hot she will drink more. I would try different water bowls, fresh water dog fountain, adding water gradually to her dry food to a level she will tolerate, try adding ice cubes to her water or try adding low sodium chicken broth to her water. Most animals that are eating and not losing fluid from vomit and diarrhea are probably hydrated and are okay. Causes of bad breath are: dental disease, diet (gas), foreign body in the mouth, matted fur around the mouth, skin infection around the mouth or kidney disease. I wish you the best!

It sounds as Buddy is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking him to the vet the first chance you get, he will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection he will need an anti nausea injection (lip licking is a sign of nausea), antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Poor Rosie. This foul odor around her mouth could be due to a broken tooth or an infected tooth, and that would prevent her from eating well. It would also make her lethargic. She needs to see a vet now, please take her into one immediately.

Hello, sorry to hear about your pup. There are several causes for increased drinking and decreased appetite. However, it may be that he is just a bit cold. Some other causes could include anxiety. Finally underlying metabolic diseases such as kidney disease, cushings, hypothyroidism, or other forms of GI disease may cause this as well. If he continues to do this then he should be evaluated by a veterinarian. Diagnostics may include bloodwork, an abdominal x-ray, or even an ultrasound. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Poor Brownie! The good news is that his nose being cold and wet is not a sign of illness in dogs. A dog's nose can go from cold and wet to warm and dry simply by lying in the sun or next to a heat source. It is concerning, however, that he is not eating or drinking, and is shaking and laying around. It is serious when a dog won't drink water, and I would have Brownie seen by a vet right away. This not eating and drinking could be caused by a systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. He could be shaking because he has a fever. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms, and can treat him for them. I would take him into a vet right away.

I’m sorry that Sassie is not feeling well! These are all very nonspecific signs and can indicate that she may be dehydrated, in pain, nauseous, or having trouble breathing. I recommend having her seen by a vet as soon as possible as these may be a sign of a medical emergency.

This could be either because of something that is bothering him in his mouth cavity or because of an ear issue (foreign body or severe infection), you need to take Duke to the vet ASAP in order to get it checked.
