My dog's nose area is red and raw. What kind of skin issue is it?

So, there are a number of things this could be. 1) This could be an allergic response to something in her environment or an insect, 2) This could be a fungal or bacterial infection that could be primary OR secondary to trauma or an allergy. Ideally I would do a prep on a slide and look under the microscope to see if there is a significant bacterial or yeast population. Regardless, however, I think she would benefit from some topical treatment depending on what is seen under the microscope. If it seems to be spreading, and the area is swollen, some injectable or oral medications may be indicated.

I am sorry to hear this. Your pet Meeiah has a very raw area that does not look normal or likely to go away on its own. This can be caused by an immune mediated skin condition (lupus) or an abrasion. I would recommend taking Meeiah to your local vet for a consultation. They may try steroid and antibiotic therapy with him as a conservative treatment or do some skin/blood testing first. That looks like either a pretty good scrape or the start of a ringworm infection or an uncommon disorder called eosinophilic furunculosis. I wouldn’t put any medication on it yet, as medication such as cortisone could make it worse if it is ringworm, but I would do a warm water and Epsom salt compress a few times the next 1-2 days. If it starts to scab over and dry up it is probably just a scrape. However if it is getting larger, or if another one pops up then she should be evaluated by a veterinarian soon. If it is the area near the nose that has less hair or the 2 white/pink spots. I do not think anything about the picture is life threatening unless I am missing your concerns. Hair loss on the muzzle can be from trauma or repeated digging/rubbing with his nose, ring worm (fungal) or demodex (non-contagious mite). If the area doesn't improve or it spreads then I would have your Vet check him out. If he is rubbing his nose to bury things then prevent him from doing so. I wouldn't recommend putting anything topical on the nose because he will likely just lick it off. I hope this helps and please repost with clarification if needed.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. From the pictures I can see that the skin has darkened in the area around the mouth. It is common to have some hair loss at the elbow since this is a pressure point and bigger dogs lay down on this part of the leg quite a bit. Many times I will see callus formation near the elbow as well. As for the mouth and the crusted discharge you saw, it could be a bacterial skin infection or fungal as well. I typically recommend using malacetic conditioning spray and apply this 2-3 times per day until resolved. If there is no improvement then I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at this for further testing and treatment recommendations.

It does look a little irritated there. That could be caused by irritation from a muzzle or face halter, or could be regular allergies starting up. I would recommend keeping the area clean and dry, for now. If it's not getting better after 3-5 days, I'd recommend a vet visit to see if she needs most medicated wipes. It's common for young dogs to get superficial bacterial infections around their lips, which usually doesn't require oral antibiotics, but may require a topical treatment. I hope that helps! Hello. This looks like it might be an eosinophilic folliculitis & furunculosis. This is often seen on the snout or bridge of nose of dogs mainly because of how the dig & root around leaf litter & under bushes. The initial cause is usually a small sab wound from a sticker or thorn, or even a bug bite. Most often we need to do some cytology or even a small biopsy to identify what is actually going on. At the very least, Holly needs to be on oral & some topical medications, including antibiotics & possibly some steroids to reduce the inflammation.
