My dog has large lumps on her nose and swollen gums, what's wrong?

Hello, thank you for your question about Bailey. Based oh the photo that you have provided I suspect that those bumps are hives and signs that Bailey is having an allergic reaction. If the reaction is mild and these are the only signs that you are seeing you could try giving her Benadryl at home to control the reaction. If she is showing any other symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, or progressive facial swelling I would recommend having her evaluated by a veterinarian. Hope this helps, good luck!

It could be an infection, cyst, allergic reaction, benign or cancerous lump. The best thing would be to have your vet examine her to perform a needle aspirate to help diagnose. Your vet can then determine the best way to treat. She may need an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, or it may need to be removed.

This may be an allergic reaction to something she has come in contact with or possible dental inflammation, if it persists beyond 12hours or she is uncomfortable I wold recommend you have it checked by your vet and they can prescribe medication to bring the swelling down. Kennel cough is characterised by a harsh, persistent cough and sinus issues generally present with discharge, pain, discomfort and snuffling

Ouch, poor Dahlilah! It could be that she injured herself while you are gone, causing this big bump and other little bumps that look like they may have bled. It could also be an allergic reaction. I would try placing a cold compress on the large bump to see if that helps with the swelling, and keep an eye on her for now. If this swelling increases, other bumps appear, her muzzle start becoming swollen, and/or she has difficulty breathing, I would take her into an ER vet right away. If there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Otherwise, have her seen by a vet on Monday if the bump is still present but hasn't gotten bigger or smaller. I hope this helps!

This is most likely due to an allergic reaction. On the muzzle this is usually happens with an insect sting, or reaction to a poisonous plant (i.e. poison oak). This is usually temporary, but can lead to a skin infection, so it's good to flush the area with cool water 2-3 times a day. Flush the area using a syringe or other dispensing device with cool water for five minutes. This may not be easy, because dogs tend to hate water getting near their face. I recommend having someone help you with holding Bob to make sure the area gets flushed well. After flushing, you can apply aloe gel to the area to provide more relief. If the swelling is not going down within two days, then I would reccomend taking him to the vet for an evaluation. It may take a week for it to look normal, but it should start to look better within a couple of days. These reactions have the potential to get worse, so if the swelling is increasing, or Bob is having trouble breathing, then be he should go to the vet as soon as possible for treatment. A couple of things come to mind as possibilities. This could be an acute hypersensitivity reaction to something - bug bite/sting, perhaps - or possibility a severe bacterial infection called furunculosis. There are also some immune-mediated/auto-immune diseases that attack the top of the nose. See your vet about this. An appropriate treatment plan might be to start antibiotics and if no improvement after 2 weeks consider a biopsy to obtain a definitive diagnosis.

Poor girl. This most likely is either a mass (cancerous or benign) or an inflammatory response to a potential foreign body inside the nasal passage. It could also be an immune mediated condition. Since all of these things can look exactly alike, the only way to know for sure is to get this area tested by your vet. If there are any new things that you have introduced to your pet, then I would be suspicious that this may be a weird allergic reaction to that particular thing and remove it to see if this resolves the issue before seeking further testing. As long as this isn't bothering Piggy then you can take a few days to sort things out and then visit your vet if you think testing is the next best step.
