Why does my dog have non-red, non-itchy bumps inside her ears?

These bumps can be caused by fly or mosquito bites, allergies/hives, or infection. You can apply a benadryl cream to the ears, but if it gets worse or more bumps appear within the next 24 hours, I recommend that Barret be checked out by a veterinarian.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Red. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. He could have an ear infection causing the red bumps. This is typically accompanied by shaking of the head, scratching the ears and discharge coming from the ears. If this is not the case, an allergic reaction could be to blame. If it truly was not there yesterday, this is most likely to be a bug bite (tick, mosquito, spider, bee, other), dog/cat bite (if he was wrestling with any other friends lately), or some other random trauma (crashing through a spiky bush or catching it on something). If you're unsure how long it's been there, add cyst, benign or malignant tumor, and others to the list of possibilities. I'd slap some neosporin on there twice daily and watch it. If no improvement in 3 days (or if worsening at any time), it's time to see the vet. This goes for any accompanying facial swelling, vomiting, or diarrhea, as these could be signs of serious allergic reaction. Best of luck to you and Lucky!

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is hard to say exactly what the cause of the bump may be without examining Lilly first. It may be from a tick bite or could be a small mass such as a cyst. From the picture, it does not appear to be a tick. Trifexis does not cover ticks. You may consider placing Lilly on another product that covers ticks. Currently there is no one product that covers heart worms, fleas, and all 4 types of ticks. I would recommend NexGard or Simparica that covers fleas and ticks very well in addition to her regular monthly heart worm preventative. I would keep an eye on the bump, however. If it gets larger or you notice any discharge or redness, I would take Lilly into her veterinarian to have it evaluated. I hope this helps!

This redness indicates inflammation and is usually itchy. It's good to check her for fleas and get treatment if needed. This pattern is more suspicious of mange, which is a mite infestation. A veterinarian can check for these mites and prescribe treatment. One thing you can do for itchy skin, is give a bath with cool water using an oatmeal or aloe shampoo. You can get these shampoos at the pet store. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I do not think the mass has anything to do with being bitten in the area. It looks like a sebaceous adenoma form your picture (benign). It is very small and I recommend, if Lilly is a calm dog, removing it locally with lidoacine and a punch biopsy. It looks smaller than 8mm which makes it easy to take off with out anesthesia. If you decide not to take it off, I think that is fine. Dogs that form sebaceous adenomas tend to form more throughout their lives. Sometimes the dogs will lick or irritate them prompting owners to want to remove them. I do recommend all new growths new evaluated by your regular veterinarian to determine if they are malignant (cancer) or not.
