My unspayed dog has black dots on nipples & yellow discharge. Vet?

So sorry to hear that Lilly is having this issue. Is this discharge coming from all the nipples or just one? First off, let me say that it is best to not touch the nipples too much and don't try to "milk" the fluid out. If there is not an infection already you will introduce one that way. The two main reasons for nipple discharge in a spayed female are infection and cancer. The other possibility is that she has an ovarian remnant - this means that when she was spayed they accidentally left a small piece of ovary behind. This piece can still produce hormones that can cause this discharge. I strongly suggest you get her to your vet for an examination. The pictures are a bit blurry, but from what I can see, Katy's nipple looks normal. Since she has not been spayed, it is possible that she is experiencing a false pregnancy (or an actual pregnancy if she has mated with a male dog). If you are feeling any lumps associated with her mammary glands, it would be best to have her examined by a vet.

The timing and symptoms could point to a false pregnancy. Have a examined by your veterinarian for confirmation. Treatment is typically not required in mild cases. Symptoms should abate within 2-3 weeks. If they don't or her behavior worsens, your vet can dispense medications to decrease milk production and possibly tranquilizers/sedatives for anxiety. Severe cases can be treated with hormone replacement therapy. To prevent​ future episodes, having her spayed would be the recommended course of action.

Hello. If she recently had her heat (about 1 month ago) then she chould be having psuedopregnancy. This is not a concern unless she develops a mastitis. If the nipples and glands are soft, not hot or cold, and not sore to touch, and if the milk is white and not clear, yellow, green, or has a bad smell, then you can monitor her. If you are noticing any yellow/green/clear discharge from the nipples then you need to get her to a vet ASAP. Prevent this in the future by having her spayed. Good luck with your little girl.

It could be a false pregnancy, true pregnancy, or a pyometra (though fluid from the nipples is less likely with this issue). The only way to know for sure is to have her examined by a vet. As long as her appetite and behavior are normal, I don't think you need to rush her in.

Hello. Roxy may be going through a false pregnancy, but without a hands on exam, I cannot tell you the exact nature of the discharge.
