So sorry to hear that Lilly is having this issue. Is this discharge coming from all the nipples or just one?

First off, let me say that it is best to not touch the nipples too much and don't try to "milk" the fluid out. If there is not an infection already you will introduce one that way.

The two main reasons for nipple discharge in a spayed female are infection and cancer. The other possibility is that she has an ovarian remnant - this means that when she was spayed they accidentally left a small piece of ovary behind. This piece can still produce hormones that can cause this discharge.

I strongly suggest you get her to your vet for an examination. Regardless of the underlying cause this is not something you can treat at home.

Brown discharge is not a good sign, it is either an infection or a mammary gland tumor. I strongly advice taking her to the vet in order to get it checked.

I would be extremely concerned about this discharge in only one teat and she was just recently spayed at her age. I suggest you take her back to the vet for an exam. This may be recurrence of a tumor or there is some hormonal imbalance. This discharge is never normal in a spayed dog.

My unspayed female dog has crusty, leaking nipples. What's wrong?

Hello. If she recently had her heat (about 1 month ago) then she chould be having psuedopregnancy. This is not a concern unless she develops a mastitis. If the nipples and glands are soft, not hot or cold, and not sore to touch, and if the milk is white and not clear, yellow, green, or has a bad smell, then you can monitor her. If you are noticing any yellow/green/clear discharge from the nipples then you need to get her to a vet ASAP. Prevent this in the future by having her spayed. Good luck with your little girl.

My dog's nipple has a lump and brown/green discharge. Should I worry?

If Linda isn't pregnant or hasn't recently given birth, she shouldn't be making milk. Abnormal colors in the discharge could indicate infection or inflammation in the gland. The only way to know what a lump is caused by is to take a sample for examination under a microscope or submit a biopsy to a pathologist. I would recommend having Linda re-examined by the vet with this new information or get a second opinion.

Why is my dog's nipple leaking bloody discharge after antibiotics?

Sorry to hear that Honey isn't right. I would want to know if that vet only analyzed the discharge or actually obtained a needle aspirate of the mass itself. While analyzing the discharge is fine, it is not going to be as accurate or meaningful as obtaining a sample of the mass. The most effective way to find out what is happening would be removing the affected area and sending it out for a biopsy. If it is an abscess or some sort of cyst, it would be curative hopefully. If it ended up being malignant in some way, they may have to go back and remove the entire mammary chain. Mammary cancer would be pretty unusual but certainly not impossible for a four year old dog. Angel should be examined by a veterinarian. Cuts in the skin can become infected, particularly if she licks it. Unless Angel is actively nursing a litter of puppies or experiencing a false pregnancy, it is unlikely that she is actually producing milk and you may have seen a purulent/pus-like discharge.
