How often do I give NexGard Spectra and does it cover tapeworms?

Yes, I like NextGard Spectra. It is a good flea and tick preventative, and it has the added benefit of treating roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms. It does work, and I would recommend using it on Bella :-)

I'm sorry to hear that you've had to deal with tapeworms twice - that sounds quite frustrating! Like most flea preventives, with Nexgard, fleas must first bite a dog before the medication works to kill them. It's possible that your dogs are getting infected if they eat either live or dead fleas that have been infected with tapeworms, either before or after the Nexgard has killed them. The other thing to consider with tapeworms is that most require at least two doses of deworming medication about 3 weeks apart in order to effectively treat the infection. While I don't know how close together your two tapeworm infections were, another possibility to consider is that the first infection might not have been fully treated. I find Nexgard to be one of the most effective flea and tick preventives on the market. I would consider asking your vet about intermittently deworming Leo and his buddy since tapeworms seem to be a recurrent issue. I hope this helps and that everything goes well!

Yes, NexGard Spectra has been shown to be both safe and effective at treating and preventing ticks and fleas as well as preventing heartworms in dogs. However, this product is currently only available in Europe and Australia. Hopefully it will be approved for use in the United States soon, but until then you may need to stick with the NexGard/HeartGard combination. I hope this helps and thanks again for posting!

You will find such a review on the internet for every single product out there, do not believe everything you read on the net, there is a lot of false information. Nexgard is an absolutely safe product for Bella.

NexGard does not prevent heartworms but does prevent fleas and ticks. I use it on my own dogs and have been very happy with the product. Advantix or Frontline are also good products so you should use whatever you prefer.

No worries. The one on the left (Simparica) should be given every 30 days and the one on the left (Milbemax) should only be given once initially and then again in 2 weeks for the treatment of roundworms and hookworms. Although if Jake only had tapeworms it only requires one treatment of the Milbemax. Tapeworms, if found in your pets stool, are caused by ingesting a flea, so reinfection is possible if you don’t keep up with giving the Simparica on time every month. I hope this helps. Great question! Nexgard kills the deer tick as well as fleas and American dog tick/rocky mountain tick, and lone star tick. It is an oral pill as well, so I would us that for your dogs. Because Nexgard doesn't protect again heartworms, you will have to give your dogs Heartgard as well, which is available by prescription only from the vet. Advantix is a spot on treatment that treats the same things as Nexgard, but you would also have to use Heartgard as well for the heartworms. These two medications (Nexgard and Advantix) are for dogs only. As for the cats, Simparica prevents five types of ticks, so this may work for your cats :-)
