My dog has two new spots on his neck. Could it be an infection?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 6 months old | 90 lbs

This spot randomly appeared about 2 weeks ago on the left side of his inner neck. 1 week ago we noticed another one appear exactly opposite of the first on the right side of his inner neck. They don’t seem to bother him but they don’t look right.

I agree that the lesion is concerning. It looks like it could be a bacterial or a yeast infection. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. In the meantime bathing in an antimicrobial shampoo such as chlorhexidine or salicylic acid would be a good idea. This can be found in the human shampoo aisle in the dandruff area. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
