My Shih Tzu licked neem oil and is vomiting. Is it toxic for dogs?

Poor guy. Tea tree oil is a pretty nasty irritant to the stomach when ingested. You can try giving him a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese for a few days, along with 1-2 tsp's of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling). I would also give him some non-flavored Pedialyte diluted with water to help prevent dehydration. If he is still having a hard time after another 24 hrs, then it is best to take him to your vet for stronger medication to help stop the nausea and treat his diarrhea with antibiotics. The oil isn't toxic, but it can cause vomiting and/or diarrhea. Some dogs can develop pancreatitis, which can cause illness that lasts for several days. If Narla is sick for more than 12-24 hours, she should get checked out by the vet. Her stools may be loose and greasy for a few days as the oil passes through.

I think it depends what kind of Almond oil you are referring to: Food grade or Essential oil that may have other ingredients? It also depends on how much she actually ingested. Food grade almond oil contains a lot of fat and essential oil I'd worry about the other chemicals. The fat in food grade can cause stomach upset (vomit, diarrhea, not eating) or pancreatitis. Since she seems fine I would recommend watching her closely for GI upset. I would also consider feeding her a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice for 3-5 days. I hope this helps!

Neem oil isn't listed as a toxic substance, but safety and efficacy studies are few and far between. That said, the amount ifbneem oil in the product pictured is likely not enough to cause serious toxicity. The amount used daily further reduces any risk. I'm sorry to hear that Molly isn't feeling well! You are correct that the aloe vera plant itself is toxic to dogs, but the gel within the plant is actually considered edible. If Molly licked pure aloe vera gel of off someone, it is unlikely that her vomiting is related to this ingestion and may be related to a virus, stomach upset from eating something else, parasites, etc. However, if the product was an aloe vera after sun product, it likely contains a variety of other ingredients that could be causing her vomiting. If she licked an after sun product, first try to determine the exact product that was used, then call the ASPCA animal poison control center to determine if there are any associated toxicities with this product (888-426-4435; there is a $65 consultation fee). If there are no other toxicities, you can try withholding food for 12 hours, then offering small frequent meals of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for several days. After that time, gradually transition back to Molly's normal diet over another 5-7 days. If the vomiting continues, or if she also develops diarrhea, a loss of appetite and lethargy, Molly will need to go to her vet for evaluation. I hope that all goes well!

Giving them a bath is the best thing to strip their coats and skin if the oil. Make sure you used dawn dish soap as this cuts grease and oil based products very well. Since little got absorbed due to the timely baths, they are unlikely to show any ill effects. Monitor for any vomiting or shaking.
