Why is my dog's neck swelling with no clear diagnosis from vets?

Coco may need to be examined again by the veterinarian. That treatment is generally used to treat an allergic reaction but if it isn't helping, then it may not be an allergic reaction. Pets can get a bacteria-related celluitis or if there is a blockage of the lymphatic system by a tumor. Coco likely needs to be re-examined and may need a chest radiograph to look for any masses or other explanation. Dogs can get edema but it's not common. It's time to go looking for other causes. Poor Baldric! This swelling could be due to trauma, it could be a lymph node swelling due to a localized infection or tooth problem, a reaction to an insect bite, or it could be an abcess. Given the absence of any additional signs, I would monitor Baldric for now. Should the swelling still be present in the morning, I. Would take him into the vet. If he shows up additional signs tonight such as difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, extreme lethargy, or anorexia, then I would take him into a vet right away.

This appears to be a very large swelling which can be either an inflammatory response to a foreign body, cellulitis, an abscess, seroma or even neoplasia has to be considered although lower on the list because of his age. I would highly recommend having the sample fluid sent to the lab for analysis. If it comes back as serosanguinous, then there is likely a foreign body inside which would require surgical exploration if nothing can be seen poking into it from the outside. If suspicious cells are seen on the fluid analysis report, then you should still do he exploratory surgery, but with subsequent mass removal. It is difficult to know the cause without seeing the swelling. Your dog could have an infection, allergic reaction, injury, or a mass causing the swelling. Your dog really needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause and then treat the problem. Your dog may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, anti-inflammatory, or other medications to treat.

How does a vet have no equipment to examine the dog? If that vet did not know what is going after looking at the dog I'm not sure how much I can tell you over the internet without looking at the dog. The most I can tell you is that at 14 years old this is likely cancer and you are not going to be able to fix it. I suggest you take him to another vet that does have equipment so you can try to get a diagnosis. A biopsy of the tumors are needed. If it is cancer it may have spread to his lungs and that is why is not able to breathe well. If you cannot afford to do all the testing to figure out what is happening then you may need to make the decision to euthanize him as it sounds like he is suffering and in pain. Please take him to another vet to get this sorted out.
