My dog is in pain, can't move head, won't eat after walk. Why?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is possibly neck or back pain. It could still be pain associated with a leg even if nothing seems wrong with them. I recommend that you have Chico evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics include radiographs. Treatment would be based on findings. At the very least they can prescribe pain control medications to make Chico feel better. In the meantime, reduce his activity as much as possible as that in itself can make a big difference. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Gage! I would worry that Gage has hurt his back or neck. This is how they tend to act. They also don’t jump up in furniture like normal and avoid the stairs. They cry when touched, picked up or move. I would take him in to your vet today before the holiday for an exam. I treat neck and back pain with anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants and pain medications. I wish Gage a speedy recovery!

I would recommend you consider taking him to your veterinarian so they can check for this. They can then treat accordingly. In the meantime, try to rest him and avoid touching his neck. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’m sorry to hear Chester isn’t feeling well. It sounds like he could be in pain in his neck or maybe his ears. I recommend taking him to his vet to locate the area where he reacts to pain so they can get him some medications to relieve it. Please do not give any over the counter medications as they aren’t safe for dogs and could effect the treatment the doctor prescribes. In the meantime, I would let Chester relax (no running, jumping, or playing) so he doesn’t cause more pain. Good luck and kisses to Chester!

Poor baby. It sounds like he may have injured something. It is common for them to injure their back or neck and act this way. I would have your vet look st him today. Your vet will be able to localize the pain and give him the appropriate pain meds to help him feel better. If it is his lower back, you vet may also prescribe him a stool softener so it is easier for him to have a bowel movement. Your vet will also be able to do X-rays if needed. I do not recommend to give any human pain meds as most of these are toxic to dogs. I hope this helps and he starts to feel better soon!

Poor Cooper! It sounds like he is in a lot of pain if he is having problems putting weight on his limbs and isn't eating or drinking. I would be concerned he may have a problem with his neck, back, or hips causing this difficulty. The best thing to do is rest him as much as possible until you can get out and get him into a vet. Please do not give him any human pain medications, many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. You may have to use a sling under his abdomen back by his hips to help support him when he gets up, and I would keep food and water near him so he doesn't have to move much to get to it. Try to tempt him to eat with some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts. As soon as you can, get him into a vet, which hopefully can be soon. I hope this helps!

This sounds like he’s in pain. It can be from arthritis, a knee ligament injury or pain from his back. Arthritis should show up on x rays, and he would be lame on one leg if it’s a cruciate ligament injury. Back pain can be caused by a bulging intervertebral disc and can me difficult to see on x rays. It can cause trouble walking with incoordination. Regardless I would try Tom on pain medication to see if that helps and keep him quiet. No running or jumping and lots of short slow leash walks. Once the pain is controlled he should eat better. If there is no improvement I recommend a rcheck or an exam with a veterinary specialist.
