My dog has three solid neck lumps. Are they microchips or cysts?

This looks like a small sebaceous cyst and the black part is the content. They are usually benign and no treatment is commonly required. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm this clinical suspicion.

It is impossible to say definitively thwt the lumps are benign without examining and aspirating the masses. If we obtain cells from the lump and they are non-cancerous, I would not be concerned. However, even benign lumps can cause issues if they become ulcerated or continue to grow. Discuss removal vs. aspirated with your veterinarian.

These do appear to be possible benign sebaceous cyst type tumors, which are typically non-cancerous. Microchips can move to odd places on the body, but when this happens they don't usually have a bump associated with it. I would recommend having your dog checked by a vet to see if the microchip really is causing the bump or if there could be a small tumor forming. Microchips can be very hard to remove as they are the size of a grain of rice and very difficult to find during surgery.

Hello. Dogs can get a variety of cysts & small benign tumors that can be totally normal. Hugo is only 4, so he is quite young to be worried about anything malignant. Still, any new lumps, bumps & nodules should be pointed out to your vet at your next visit. If these 2 lumps should suddenly change by enlarging, changing color, or bleeding, then have them looked at quickly. Otherwise, just monitor them for now. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! These could be benign or malignant growths. These could even be due to an infection or an allergic reaction like you pointed out. This is often differentiated by an exam and a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. These lumps on Rocky Road (love his name!) could be due to a cyst, a benign tumor, or a malignant tumor. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. I would take him into the vet tomorrow to have the lumps examined and diagnosed. Once the lump is diagnosed, the vet can recommend treatment.
