My Chihuahua has a painless lump on his neck. What could it be?

Those appear to be benign cysts - nothing to do with the microchip. These are very common in small breed dogs. I suggest you monitor them and if they get larger or cause him any discomfort then you should have your vet examine them. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Thanks for visiting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Considering how far this appeared and the glistening appearance of this swelling, this appears to be a possible engorged tick. I recommend confirming that suspicion by looking really close for where it comes into contact with the skin to see if you can visualize rhebtick legs. You may have to pull up on the body of the tick a little to see clearly. Then proceed to remove this tick using tweezers or a tick removal kit from your local pet store. There are videos on YouTube that demonstrate how to remove ticks successfully. You want to make sure you grab it close to the skin so that you remove the entire tick head along with the body. Do no place any oils or any chemicals on the tick or this will only agitate it. If you don’t feel comfortable removing it yourself, then take Taco in to your vet for removal. Then discuss with your vet about after care and possible prophylactic treatment with antibiotics to cover any potential tick borne diseases. There is only a slight chance this is a mass, at which point a vet visit is recommended to get samples from it to determine what kind of mass it is and how we should proceed treating it. If its panful and growing, then I would be most suspicious that Jimmy Z has an infected cyst. You may take him into the veterinarian who will prescribe anti-inflammatories and possibly an antibiotic. It may also rupture on its own. If it does, keep Jimmy from licking it, wash it well with antibacterial soap and apply a topical antibiotic. These can get infected so watch it closely! It is impossible to say definitively thwt the lumps are benign without examining and aspirating the masses. If we obtain cells from the lump and they are non-cancerous, I would not be concerned. However, even benign lumps can cause issues if they become ulcerated or continue to grow. Discuss removal vs. aspirated with your veterinarian.

In a young dog of Leila's age, this nodule is most likely to be a benign tumor or a cyst. There is a small chance it could be malignant, but it's unlikely. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of it's cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. I would take her into the vet sometime next week to have this nodule examined and diagnosed so it can be treated as needed. A lump in this location could be a mammary tumor. These are growths in the breast tissue. They can be benign or malignant. I always recommend surgical removal because they continue to grow, even if they are not cancerous. Another possibility would be a hernia. If this is a hernia, surgery would be recommended to repair it because organs such as intestines, bladder or uterus can become entrapped. I would recommend an evaluation by a veterinarian to determine what it is and make recommendations on how to treat it.

Without examining Casper, it's hard to determine the exact cause of his lesion. Most vaccines are administered in under the skin in a leg, but if Casper's vaccine was given between his shoulder blades, it is possible that this could be related. Some causes of lumps and bumps include benign or malignant masses (histiocytomas are common in young dogs and are benign), sebaceous cysts, an imbedded tick or granuloma. Casper should see his vet to have this lesion evaluated by means of a fine needle aspirate. To accomplish this, your vet will draw a few samples from the lesion with a needle (it's quick and relatively painless!) and examine the cells microscopically. I hope this helps!
