Why does my dog have a neck cut after grooming? Collar or injury?

It looks like Panda had an insect bite or a small injury to the skin under the collar and either she scratched it or the collar rubbed the area. Sores under collars in the summer when it is hot and humid can become more inflamed than normal. Please leave the collar off for a few days if you can and clean the area with an antibacterial soap. After rinsing and drying it you can apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment to help it heal and keep the the area protected from dirt. This should heal in a few days. 1) take off the collar and do not put it back on. 2) cut or clip away the hair around the wound to facilitate cleaning the wound, 3) clean the wound with a mild disinfectant 4) let heal by itself. If there is no pus or infection there is no need to put an antibiotic on the wound. If it looks like there is infection or if the wound is deep, or if you are not able to do steps 2-3, you should take Bella to a veterinarian for wound care.

I recommend keeping the collar off for now and not letting her swim or get wet for at least the next few days. I would not put any more neosporin or other ointments on the area, as this can trap moisture and delay healing. No, just keep an eye on it for now. To keep Winnie from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and she will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. I hope this helps.

Poor Lucky! I'm glad to hear that his vet will be checking him out tomorrow. From the picture, the skin lesion looks most like a hot spot (aka acute moist dermatitis). If you have clippers on hand, you can try to carefully trip the hair over and around this skin lesion to allow for better air flow. You can also gently clean his skin with an antiseptic solution, such as diluted chlorhexidine or diluted betadine, but be sure to rinse and dry thoroughly. If Lucky is scratching at his neck, it would be best to put an e-collar (cone) on until his appointment. Of course, we can't tell for sure, but that looks like a small tear or cut which could have happened from a kennel edge, scissors, clippers, or a sharp edge of a table, etc. I would expect more tearing or bruising if it was a dog bite. The wound looks clean, but I would still recommend an antibacterial cleaner/wash since there is likely bacterial from the skin that has gotten into the wound. Most of the time, that is all we recommend for small wounds like that because they will heal well as long as they are kept clean and protected. Depending on where the wound is, you may need to use an e-collar or shirt to keep it protected and keep Sonny from licking at it since that may cause it to get infected. If it is that small and superficial, it may heal on its own though it is hard to know based on a picture. You can continue to monitor it for now.
