My dog has poop accidents with mucus. Should I go to pet hospital?

Yes this could be definitively due to diet. As a first approach, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice lethargy or inappetence. You are doing the right thing by feeding the bland diet, and I'm wondering if the sweat potato could be causing the color of his poop. Do not give him any more of it, and continue to watch his poop. If the color still occurs in his poop, he stops eating, he stops drinking, he vomits food or water, and/or he becomes lethargic, then I would take him into the vet. I hope this helps.

Hi there. Diarrhea can be caused by a multitude of things. Increased mucous makes me suspicious of parasites first. I would recommend taking your pup in to have a fecal. Based on the findings of this, you can choose how best to proceed after this easy step is ruled out. It may also be that Pandora has an upset stomach due to something she's eaten and has thrown her digestive system off. Think about if you have changed her food or given her anything she does not normally get. Hope this helps.

If she is eating, drinking and acting normal, then it is not likely necessary to seek emergency veterinary care. If she starts acting ill or you see obvious blood in her stool, then she should be seen. Otherwise, I would see her veterinarian again or seek a second opinion. It is not normal for her to have ongoing GI issues. There are a variety of fecal and blood tests that can be used to help reach a diagnosis. A diet trial could also be beneficial. That is good that you actually took photos! It’s so much easier to see the stool than to get a verbal description. Loose stool can be a sign of many conditions and if you are seeing frequent signs of it, it could indicate parasites, inflammatory bowel disease, bacterial over growth or just dietary intolerance. At 2 years old, Harley is not likely to have other conditions that can cause frequent soft stools like liver or kidney disease, or lymphoma but it is possible. Take a look around her environment and see if there’s anything she could’ve gotten into in the house or the yard. Dogs will often eat things that upset their stomach’s like dead earthworms or garbage. I recommend to call your veterinarian and let them know what is happening. They may ask to see Harley earlier or they may post pone her vaccines. If Harley is acting completely normal, is not having any vomiting and has a normal appetite, this could just be a passing thing. Go ahead and switch her to a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (25%) and boiled plain white rice (75%). It will measure out cup for cup of just like her dog food. Feed her this for 24 hours and if things are looking better wean her back to her regular food over a couple days. if Harley is showing signs of illness, then I would recommend to have her seen today if possible.
