Hello and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You are correct that sometimes a small amount of dried discharge from the eye is normal after sleeping. However, because this is only occurring with one of Yogi's eyes it could indicate a blocked tear duct, allergy or mild conjunctivitis. As long as Yogi doesn't show any signs of squinting the eye, excessive tearing, redness or pawing at the eye you may want to try flushing the eye gently with sterile opthamic saline for a few days. If the discharge persists or if any of the above signs develop, I would take Yogi to see a veterinarian.
