My dog has a mouth bump after kennel stay. Is it from the fence?

This is a superficial pyoderma (skin infection) but from what, I do not know. I suggest you use these medicated pads topically on the affected areas until they are gone. If after about 7-10 days there is no improvement, he should see a vet. It doesn't look red or irritated, so it does not appear infected. I'd keep an eye on it for now. If it gets bigger, starts to bother him, or appears infected, then you need to have him seen by a vet. I'm not sure we can tell you for sure exactly what that is, but it looks like a papilloma or wart. These are usually a benign growth and are often caused by a virus. If Marci has been in contact with other dogs recently at the dog park, a boarding or daycare facility, etc.--these are common places to pick up the virus. If it is that, he may develop more. They typically disappear on their own over the course of a few weeks. If this doesn't sound like a possibility, that raised area may simply be a spot of inflammation or folliculitis. Monitor it for growth and it us shears a good idea for your veterinarian to check out any strange lump.

Poor guy! Your can try this: It won’t hurt him if he licks it off. However, if it’s not improving in 5 days or so, I would recommend that you schedule a recheck with your vet. I’m worried he may need antibiotics, as he may have a deep skin infection. If it continues to be a problem , a skin biopsy may be recommended. Thanks for asking PetCoach!

Thanks for attaching a picture. If it feels like normal gum tissue (soft, moveable) it is possibly due to contact from the k9 tooth above it (overgrowth of tissue from irritation). Do you see the same thing on the other side? If it is more firm, painful, red, or grew rapidly that would be more concerning and then it should be evaluated by your family vet. If you elect to monitor certainly have your vet take a look at his next annual visit. If the lesion changes (growth, etc.) certainly have your vet take a look at it sooner. Poor guy. This swelling looks quite irritating indeed. It could be a blister since he is so young and due to the way it looks. I would recommend offering soft food only to Bryan Kraber to prevent further irritation of the area. Also a water additive can be used to help flush his mouth and keep the area from getting infected. If he still seems uncomfortable by tomorrow, then I would schedule a vet appt to have this treated with pet friendly pain medication. Over the counter pain medicine should be avoided in pets due to the high risk of causing acute kidney/liver failure, so its best to consult with your vet if needed. It is hard to tell from the photo the characteristics of this bump. I would say it is possible it is related to trauma and I would monitor for now but it could also be a tumor (either benign or malignant). My recommendation would be to monitor it for the next 24 to 48 hours, and if it is still there in the same size or it is bigger I would have a veterinarian examin the area. Further testing might need to be considered such as taking a sample of the mass and sending it out for interpretation at the laboratory. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.
