Why is my dog's mouth sore getting bigger? What should I do?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This looks like dog acne which can occur from eating or drinking water from a dirty bowl. The best way to prevent this is by keeping the water and food bowls very clean. If he has been itchy, you may get an e-collar from your local pet store to prevent further scratching trauma to the area. Keep this as clean as possible. You can use soapy water. This usually resolves on its own. Good luck!

Based on the picture, I would suspect something infectious such as a virus or bacterial infection. It could be a severe case of acne but it is a different presentation than I've seen before. I would recommend having this looked at by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. She may need to be on an oral antibiotic and topical ointment to treat this. I hope this helps!

Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It could be a bit of acne going on, but it could also be a staph infection from Alice putting her nose wherever dogs go. You could put a spot of triple antibiotic or Neosporin on the areas. If she licks it off, no harm. Do this at leas twice a day for a few days. If it does not seem to be healing, seems to be spreading, or continues to bleed, please have you veterinarian take a look. Take care.

Please, take Rona to your local vets for an appointment. She will likely need a course of antibiotics in form of tablets or ointment/cream.

You should take Noa to your local vets as he will need of few days treatment with an ointment or cream with antibiotic and possibly anti-inflammatory agent

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Aurora is adorable! Even though these could represent cancerous nodules, it could likely be something like dog acne. The cause of this is usually exposure to perhaps a dirty water or food bowl so a good way to prevent exacerbation of this or to prevent it from happening is by making sure her water and food bowls are clean. Sometimes, this resolves on its own by keeping her food and water bowls clean. However, if it does not resolve on its own in the next week or so, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for therapy which may include steroids and a topical antibiotics and diagnostics if on further examination, it appears to be something other than simple acne. I see what you mean about the bump, it could be canine acne, but it could also be a sebaceous cyst, a benign growth like a papilloma, or an infected area. Unfortunately without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain. I do not recommend squeezing it again, don't use any wipes on it, and just keep an eye on it. If it gets bigger, it starts to bother him (you see him rubbing his face on things or using his paw to rub his face), and/or any other concerning behavior such as a lethargy or a loss of appetite, he will need to see a vet. It would be a good idea to get it checked out to be safe, but it's not an emergency. I hope this helps!
