My dog has skin issues and ear infection. Is Mometamax for ears?

An ear infection can cause a discharge in the ears, redness, swelling, scabs, and some hair loss. Mometamax will treat both a bacterial and yeast infection, as well as help with inflammation and swelling. If the ears don't start to look better in a few days than he should be rechecked by your vet to determine the cause. If his ears are really red and inflamed than an oral corticosteroid may help.

Hello. Otomax is a broad spectrum medication the contains an antibiotic, antifungal as well as a steroid. It is possible that the steroid is preventing the lesion from healing. I would talk to your vet about this & switching to another antibiotic such as silver sulfadiazine. Clavamox will clear-up some infections, but not all and is usually given in more severe cases of ear infections. Ear infections usually have a primary cause that allows it to be infected and allergies are a common primary cause. If your vet recently evaluated him, then I would assume they would have noticed this and it would be worth giving your vet a call to see if this was a consideration when they prescribed the clavamox. Otherwise, the vet would need to evaluate him again to determine what the problem is and the necessary treatment. I hope that helps and he gets better soon.

Mometamax can be used in cats "off label". Meaning the label does not state that it can be used in cats only because the company did not do clinical trials on it in that species (usually because it is very costly). I do no think this was a mistake and I would go ahead and use it as prescribed.

It looks as if your dog has a skin infection, most commonly caused by an allergy, a skin mite (Demodex) or fleas. 

The allergy could be a due to a protein in your dog’s food or an environmental allergy like to dust, pollens, grasses, etc. 

The allergy causes your dog to itch and chew at the skin which breaks down the skin barrier. This then leads to infection. Skin infections are typically characterized by large areas of hair loss, redness, crusting, flaking, and pustules. A thorough skin examination by your veterinarian should be able to determine the cause of the itch so it can be treated appropriately. Your dog will most likely need antibiotics to help clear up the infection and possibly an allergy/anti-itch medication like Apoquel, Atopica, or Cytopoint to give some relief while the infection clears up. A medicated shampoo may be beneficial as well. I would also recommend he be on a good flea control routinely too. Once the infection has resolved a long term allergy medication (like Apoquel or Cytopoint) can be given on a regular basis to prevent any future problems. I hope this helps. Monistat is not likely to help in this case, you will need either a medicated shampoo to treat yeast infection or an oral antifungal medication, these are prescription only and you will need to take her to the vet in order to get them.

Hi. It appears the mometomax isn't working well enough in Luca. I would recommended calling your veterinarian to schedule an appointment for a recheck and I would recommend oral medications versus topical in this case. He may need steroids as well. Good luck.
