My dog fought. Her breath smells metallic, but no mouth wound. Help!

Hi. She would need a full oral exam to know for sure. But some possibilities include: dental disease, infected tooth, ulcers in the mouth, foreign material stuck in mouth, or in the tongue. Check her mouth very closely, and call your veterinarian first thing in the morning. Good luck.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Those wounds look concerning for a chemical or thermal burn, but could be wounds from a fight. I strongly recommend a visit to the vet, as she might have wounds inside her mouth as well, and if she drank something corrosive might have a problem in her stomach as well. Either way, those look painful, and look like they might require antibiotics, especially if they are wounds from a fight. These you will need to get from the vet. At home human medications are not safe for dogs so do not give any human medications. Best of luck with River, I hope she feels better soon!

It's odd that it improved when the [Giardia](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/giardia/) was treated. My first suspicion for the ongoing odor is that she may be licking at her anal glands or eating her own (or someone else's) poop. Ideally, have her examined by a veterinarian just to make sure there are no wounds, irritation, etc in her mouth or throat that maybe contributing. You r vet can also check her anal glands to see if they seem full or irritated which could lead t her having a tendency to lick at them a lot. If her anal glands are fine, and her mouth is fine, use a daily product for dental health. [CET products](https://us.virbac.com/cet-veggiedent-fr3sh-dental-chew-for-dogs) contain chlorhexadine which kills bad breath causing bacteria. It’s tough to be certain of the severity of her wounds without examining myself, but fortunately those wounds don’t appear to be too serious from the photos. I think it’s unlikely that she’ll need stitches. However, bite wounds tend to get infected, so I would bring Gracie in to your vet when they open tomorrow, as they’ll likely want to start her on antibiotics. In the meantime, keep those wounds clean by gently washing them with warm soapy water (Dawn dish soap works well). I hope this helps and she feels better!

There is most likely a wound in the mouth which is why he is drooling. I highly recommend having him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Yes, the metallic smell can be from teething. I would not be overly worried about it. All her adult teeth should be in by about 6 months of age, if after that the smell persists then you should have your vet check her out. You can give her 1/4 cup of canned pumpkin per day (pure pumpkin, not pie filling) to help with her pooping.
