Can dogs mate in one minute if the female is in her first heat?

If you are unable to have one or both of the dogs spayed/neutered then you will have to be diligent about keeping them separated while the female is in heat. There is a fairly good chance a mating with a tie may result in a pregnancy. You'll need to wait about 4 weeks after the mating to confirm via blood work, palpation or abdominal ultrasound. It will need to be confirmed by your veterinarian. There is a canine version of the "morning after" pill but you'll need to contact your veterinarian as soon as possible for it to be administered for maximum effect.

It should not take an hour. I would say 15-20 minutes maximum. Is the female still around? If so, that may be causing him more stress. If he still has an erection or does not calm down soon that would be an emergency and he should see a vet.

If you have the two of them together while she is in heat, she may become pregnant. Even if they are from the same litter and are brother/sister, they will still breed if given the chance. Therefore, if you do not want them to breed, it would be best to either separate them completely while she's in heat, or have one or both of them "fixed." At 6 months old, your male dog can be neutered at any time. It would be best to wait until the female is out of heat, because the surgery is a bit more difficult to perform when the female is in heat as there is increased blood flow to the uterus. Hi there. Much as in any species reproduction, successful mating only requires one time to lead to the production of healthy offspring. I will, however, usually encourage my breeder clients to allow the pair to breed at least 2-3 times for maximal probability. There is never a 100% guarantee that any pair will mate successfully to produce offspring, as many factors (female egg count, hormone levels, male sperm count and viability, etc) also come into play here. This can be a difficult situation! Since Snowbell mated (I assume while she was in heat), there is certainly a chance that she may have become pregnant. At this point, your options are to either have her spayed very soon to terminate any possible pregnancy and prevent the occurrence of future pregnancies, or wait and allow her to deliver any pups. If your mom saw Esme in the act of mating with a male dog, then it's very likely she will become pregnant. You should either prepare for puppies in about 60 days, or consider having her spayed now if you didn't intend to breed her.
