My dog tested Lyme positive after vaccine, no symptoms. Second opinion?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

My dog had a Lyme disease vaccine. He has no symptoms of anything. Several months later, just as part of an exam, the vet re-tested him and said he tested positive and needs antibiotics. I am giving them, but think I should re-test at another vet. But how can I be sure the vets are giving me truthful results and don't want to keep treating my dog for the money? He is four and runs around with his buddies and does stairs with no problems. What do you think?

Oh course I want to believe the best in a vet, and I know personally as a vet, I would never give false results that would make a dog get a treatment they don't need. It's highly unethical and could be very harmful to the dog. It sounds like you are concerned, then it's ok to have him seen by another vet for a second opinion. I hope this helps!
