My dog has a lump under skin. Is waiting for removal too long?

As long as it isn't bothering Chinook, it's ok to wait until Monday to get this area tested through your vet. Best case scenario is that this is a benign tumor that isn't of concern for your pet. There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. As the lump as already been removed, it is quite safe to wait that long, the main reason for sending it to the lab is for you to know if it is a benign tumor or a malignant tumor, if it is a malignant tumor, the prognosis will not be good, even if the lump has been removed cleanly. if it is benign then you have very little to worry about.

I wish I could give you some piece of mind. Unfortunately it's impossible to say from a picture if it's benign or not. The fact that it's been there for almost a year now and hasn't become much larger is a good sign, but doesn't make cancer impossible. You are definitely making a good decision to have it removed. I'd recommend talking to Precious' vet about your anxiety and see if she could be scheduled sooner for surgery. Maybe a cancellation will come up. Bumps can be benign, as you know. If your veterinarian has any concerns that this is more than just a lipoma, then they will likely recommend removal. The goal would be complete removal and hopefully be curative. But you can’t make a plan until she is examined. It sounds like your pet has a skin mass, which typically is not an emergency type of situation, especially if it isn’t bleeding or causing immense pain or discomfort for your pet. Having the mass evaluated on Monday is perfectly logical. The vet will gather samples of the mass and send it off for anlalgsis through the lab to see if this is a mass that will require surgical removal or not. I hope things work out well for your pet. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! In my opinion Liko is a bit old to get a histiocytoma. They tend to occur in dogs 3 years or younger, maybe 5 years. To me it looks like a sebaceous adenoma, which are also benign. I think it is fine to wait another 10 days as long as it isn't growing at a super fast rate.
