My dog has a low body temperature and is panting. Is this a problem?

102.5 is the normal temperature for dogs. But panting can be a sign of discomfort. If she is acting painful and having trouble walking I recomend a veterinarian check Lilly over. She may have an injury to her back or abdominal pain causing her to act abnormally.

Normal temperature in dogs can be up to 102.5 degrees so I don't think he has a fever, but the heavy panting and increase in water intake can indicate he is in pain or has an issue such as metabolic disease causing distress and symptoms. It would be best to bring him to your vet, especially if he also has sores or skin issues in addition to these symptoms. Your vet will likely want to do some tests such as bloodwork to help determine the cause of all his symptoms and get him on the right treatment plan.

A dog's normal temperature is between 101-102.5F, so Rowdy's temperature is low. I would take it again, as you may have accidentally inserted the thermometer in some feces in his anus. If it's still low, then it may be a good idea to have him seen by a vet tonight. I hope this helps!

Panting can be due to pain, anxiety, fever, respiratory troubles, etc. Warm can be due to pain, anxiety, fever, and other conditions. If Bear is not eating, drinking, or is just lying there panting, or having vomiting, diarrhea, or seems painful, then I would get him to a vet. Other conditions include heart failure, blood clots, etc. As you can see there are many causes of panting and being warm. If Bear is acting abnormal in any other way get him to the vet right away. Otherwise you can monitor but if the panting is abnormal for his behaviour and continues for the next 30min or so I would take him to a vet. Best of luck with Bear!

If your dog had been exercising or out in the heat it is possible his temperature could have increased due to this, but 104.1 is a pretty high temperature if you feel it was truly an accurate reading. We can see dogs temperatures get that high if they are really hot/excited/stressed and they are overweight or brachycephalic (smoosh faced) but I am concerned that his energy level was decreased. If he still doesn't seem himself tomorrow then I would bring him in for an exam. If overnight his temperature gets very high again, or he becomes weak, has trouble breathing, or his gums become pale in color or he starts having other symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea then I would consider bringing him in to the emergency vet.

Hello. Making any kind of assumption or diagnosis is very difficult just based on panting & shivering, but I can tell you this can be typical signs of pain & an elevated temperature. Since he has periods of normal behavior, my concerns is there is some underlying pain that JosLouis is experiencing. It could be from any area, so even if he quits the behavior, I would recommend having your vet check him out, just to make sure. Hope all is well soon. These symptoms could be caused by a range of issues, including musculoskeletal pain, heart or lung disease, abdominal pain, heat stress or heat stroke, anxiety, impending seizures, etc. I would recommend that you keep a close eye on Bailey for the next 12-24 hours. If he develops additional symptoms, he should be checked out by a vet immediately. If he is just not back to normal within 24 hours, he should also see a vet.
