My dog has low blood counts, breathing issues, and swollen belly.

Did he eat anything red in colors? Treats? If he did it may be from that. If he is acting fine and not lethargic, eating well, no bloody diarrhea, no more vomiting then I would say you can wait until tomorrow. If he becomes lethargic, not eating, vomiting continues diarrhea then I would recommend bringing him to a veterinarian sooner. I hope Otis feels better soon. I am very sorry to hear about your dog. She definitely needs to go see a veterinarian as soon as possible. Swelling of the abdomen as you describe can be from many causes including fluid buildup in the abdomen (due to things such as heart disease, liver disease, low protein levels due to kidney loss or intestinal loss or severe intestinal parasitism), tumors in the abdomen as well as tumors that are bleeding or oozing into the abdomen. The vet will palpate your dog's belly and may recommend testing including a fecal test to check for parasites and bacteria, an x-ray to look for fluid and tumors, and bloodwork to check protein and red and white blood cell levels.

Loss of appetite and vomiting can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Layka evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. You can offer a bland diet which may help. This diet could be composed of rice, boiled chicken, ham, turkey, lean hamburgers or low fat cottage cheese. When there is evidence of blood in the vomit, that raises concern for things like a gastrointestinal ulcer, gastrointestinal tumor, severe gastroenteritis, foreign body ingestion, among other possibilities. Some tests that are usually run include bloodwork (CBC and chemistry panel +/- coagulation profile) and abdominal ultrasound. Thoracic/cervical radiographs may follow. Further diagnostics will be based on the findings up to that point. Treatment will be based on findings. I do think that this warrants an evaluation as soon as possible as he may be getting dehydrated. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything will be fine with Osito!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! To treat diarrhea I recommend fast Otis for 12-24 hours. Do not limit water unless vomiting. Then restart feeding as a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per day until 2 days of normal stools. If the diarrhea doesn't improve he should be seen by your Vet. As for the bleeding butt-I would need more information. If you mean there is blood in the stool then the above may help. But if there is blood in the stool Otis ideally needs antibiotics which you can get from your Vet. If there is a wound on his butt or near his butt then he needs to see a Vet. I hope this helps

It is possible that the vomit has blood in it, though I would not expect it to have flecks in it. It is possible that Koda ate something that was red/pink in color that made his vomit this color. However, even the possibility of blood in vomit is cause for concern as this can be caused by stomach ulcers, foreign bodies, or certain toxins. I recommend keeping a very close eye on Koda, and having her examined immediately if this happens again or your believe you are seeing something that looks like frank blood or dark coffee grounds in her vomit. She should also be seen immediately if you think there is a chance that she may have eaten something she shouldn't have or has gotten into human medications. Until she can be seen by a vet tomorrow, I recommend not giving her any food and only offering small amounts of water. There are emergency clinics in most cities that are open 24 hours. Poor guy. I am so sorry Charlie is ill and has this suspicious erythematous lesion on his belly near his penis. This looks like a possible mild bleeding under the skin or potentially an adverse reaction to a tick or black fly bite. A black fly bite wouln't cause systemic illness however (not eating, lethargy). There is possibly an internal issues going on here and more information is needed to determine what exactly. I would recommend taking him in to the vet first thing in the morning. He should be stable enough to wait until morning as long as she is not having any of the following: 1) Pale gums 2) Severe lethargy and non-responsiveness 3) Excessive vomiting that is continuous 4) More red spots developing on the skin in various places If he does not show any of the above symptoms, then it is likely ok to wait until morning to get Charlie seen and fully evaluated. The main concern is if there is an underlying bleeding disorder or immune system disoder (i.e. IMHA, IMTP). I hope that things work out well for your pet Charlie and that he feels better soon! The vet will know what to do to treat him once some tests are ran to determine the underlying cause. Best wishes and take are.
