My dog's stitches are loose after lump removal. Should I call vet?

It would be helpful to have a picture of Trick's stitches so I can tell you if he needs to be seen by a vet or not. Attaching photos to a forum question is free, so i would recommend posting again with pictures so I or another expert can help you :-)

It looks like a small pustule. He may need an antibiotic to treat so you should call your vet and have him rechecked. If the suture underneath is poking through then your vet might be able to trim the suture so it doesn't bother him. It should eventually be absorbed. The incision appears to have healed well.

Yes, I would have Trick checked out by a vet. I'm concerned that he has been eating the bandages and that could be making him sick as well. I see you are in New Zealand. I know today is Wellington Day, but if vets are open in your area, then I would take him into a vet now. Best of luck.

A little bit of blood/tinged fluid is not uncommon but I would schedule a post surgery recheck with the operating vet as soon as possible just to be sure, especially as one end of the wound has loosened a little. An emergency visit would be recommended if any swelling develops behind the wound, it starts to gape open more than 0.5cm or if it is persistently dropping blood.

It appears that this part of the incision did pop open. I would recommend that you have it checked by an emergency vet. It may be able to heal without getting new stitches, but I cannot make that call just by looking at a picture - it should be done by someone that can evaluate the whole body. Make sure that he is not licking - not even once - since that will spread bacteria, decrease healing, and loosen up other stitches.

The wound margins still look normal and the wound seems still ok at this stage. I would recommend to have the collar back on and keep it on. At this stage a vet check up is not strictly needed. Dissolvable stitches means that it is very likely you will not see anything and there is no need to remove them. To be able to evaluate the the wound breakdown and possible exposure of underlying layers (and so the potential risk of infection) I would need to at least see a picture of the wound.
