Could my dog's lip masses be from a broken tooth infection or tumors?

Antibiotics will only decrease the size of a mass if the mass is infected. If it is a benign mass, it will likely stay the same size and will not go away without surgery. If your veterinarian took a sample of the mass, they may be able to tell you what they think it is. Benign masses tend to stay the same size or grow very slowly over time. Looks like it could be a deep infection. These usually require antibiotics for a while to get them to go away. Possible it's a little mass as well. Hard to tell from the pictures. Recommend having it looked at. They might want to aspirate with a needle and see if they can tell what kind of cells are in it to try and make a diagnosis.

It certain is possible that Kita had a very severe infection in her mouth and the antibiotics helped, and I'm glad that she seems better than she has in a long time. Without having a biopsy, a malignant tumor can't be ruled out completely, but I would keep an eye on her mouth for now. If the redness doesn't go away, or if her cheek becomes swollen again and she develops ulcers, then I would take her back into the vet for a biopsy.

It is possible that it is associated with some type of cancer, especially if you can see a mass. It could also be caused by a tooth infection. Your vet could do a dental cleaning with x-rays to evaluate his teeth and see if any are infected teeth that need to be extracted. He may need to stay on an antibiotic for an extended period of time to clear the infection. Your vet could also culture the drainage to make sure he is on the correct antibiotic.

I wouldn't say that you can rule out an abscess, on the contrary, if it got better after antibiotic treatment, it's likely to be a tooth abscess. the antibiotic may solve the problem but you cannot know in advance, you need to finish the antibiotic course and wait a few weeks to see if it comes back or not. if it comes back he will need a dental procedure, and by the way he is nowhere too old for anesthesia, a few weeks ago one of my oldest patients, a cat 23 years of age, went through a small procedure under general anesthesia without any issues.

Possible causes of the mass are: a benign over growth of gum tissue, an epulis, or cancerous growths. Some epulids are: Fibromatous, ossifying, and acanthomatous. Acanthomatous epuli, in particular, are highly invasive to the bone and are usually located on the front part of the lower jaw. It is sadly impossible to tell from just looking at the mass to say what it could be. I recommend you make an appointment with your Vet. Lucky will have to go under anesthesia, have dental X-rays taken of the area and the mass biopsied or removed, if able. I hope this helps! I wish Lucky the best!

Poor guy. It is hard to saw if this is more likely a tumor than inection without seeing the mass itself. However, if the antibiotics were effective they would have shown much improvement within 4-5 days after starting them. Drooling could just indicate he is nauseous. Also if the swelling has gone down tremendously since starting the medication, then this is more likely not a tumor. I hope that things work out well for your pet G moving forward.
