My dog has been limping on his left paw. I can tell it’s hurting him. It’s not swollen. Or displaced. It’s tender. I’m not sure if I should take him to the vet or not.

Poor CJ! He could have strained a ligament or muscle in his leg causing this limping. Given that it got better and now has gotten worse again, CJ should see a vet in the morning for a lameness exam and possibly x-rays. Tonight, I would rest him, take him out to toilet on a lead only, and bring him right back in when he's done.
