My dog is limping and won't eat. When should I see an emergency vet?

Limping is a sign of pain, and some dogs will have a poor appetite with higher levels of pain. I would recommend that Jax be checked out by a vet to figure out why he is limping (possible bone fracture, muscle sprain, muscle spasm, etc.) so that he can be appropriately treated. Other causes of a poor appetite in a puppy include nausea from dietary intolerance or indiscretion, food allergy, intestinal parasites, GI blockage, gastroenteritis, bacterial or viral infection, among a few others. These can be discussed at the same appointment that is made to have the limp checked out.

Hello Dogs don't often get growing pains, but since Oakley is limping and also vomiting, I would recommend that you have her checked. Puppies can limp from injury but best to have her checked, and they can also find out why she's vomiting. Lameness, loss of appetite and energy are definitely concerning. This can be caused by tick borne diseases such as Lyme disease. There are also certain bone and joint diseases that only affect growing puppies, and need to be ruled out with an x-Ray. I recommend having your appointment sooner rather than later, you may want to call your vet and ask for an earlier appointment.

As your cat hasn't been eating and is limping it is best to schedule a veterinary appointment ASAP. The limp could be caused by a number of things including injury to the leg, such as a break or sprain, wound or infection from a bite or scratch, or muscle or nerve damage. If the limb is hurt severely enough or if infection is present it may make your cat not want to eat. Until you can get to the vet, limit all activity to prevent further injury to the limb, and try to entice eating by warming up some wet food or adding some warmed boiled chicken to your cat's food. However it is necessary to schedule a vet appointment ASAP.

Limping means Rocky is in pain, and if he's not eating as normal and not drinking, that tells me he is in a lot of pain. Unfortunately there are no OTC pain medications you can give him. Many human ones are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I'd take him into a vet now to get treated.

He really needs to see a vet. You didn’t mention if it was a front leg or hind leg. He could have a simple strain/sprain. It could be a genetic OCD lesion or hip dysphasia. It could be a torn CCL if it’s a back leg. There is no way for us to diagnose this via the internet. He needs to be examined by a vet in person. It sounds like he’s in pain and that’s why he’s not eating.

If Bullet is limping, that tells me he is in pain. Pain would cause him to be lethargic and not eat. He needs to see a vet first thing in the morning for these issues, please take him into one. I hope this helps.
