Dog limping, fever, not eating; vet found nothing. What's wrong?

These symptoms are very suspicious of a tick born disease such as tick fever, babesiosis or lyme disease. you should take him back to your vet and request a blood test to identify those potential blood parasites, treatment is with some very specific medications and antibiotics.

Causes of a fever are: Lyme disease, immune conditions, infection (urinary, joint, lung) or pending GI upset. If she isn't better by the morning she should be seen by your Vet. I wish you the best!

Loss of appetite and vomiting can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. Lameness can be due to discomfort possibly due to arthritis or something else. This may be related or perhaps may be unrelated and another issue. Lyme disease is a possibility though this is not very common. I recommend that you have Jakey evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Hello. I am so sorry Ginger is not feeling well. There are just so many things that could be causing her to feel unwell. Can you take her temperature rectally? Anything over 102.8 F would be an indication that she has an infection & probably needs to be on an antibiotic. Limping may indicate joint inflammation as we will see illness plus lameness with certain tick diseases such as Lyme's. If Ginger is not improving in the next day or so, she really needs to be assessed by your veterinarian. Only then can the proper treatment be started to get Ginger back to health. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sometimes dogs feel warm and do not have a fever so I would not necessarily think that she has a fever because her tongue is warm. If you wanted to be sure, you can check her temperature rectally and if in between 99.5 and 102.5 then she would be ok. I do recommend though that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for the foot issue. This can sometimes occur from trauma to the leg and it would be worth knowing if there is any evidence of a fracture or something of that nature. Your veterinarian could perform radiographs if deemed necessary on examination. Good luck and have a great day!

It sounds like he needs immediate care if he is not eating, he is lethargic and may have a fever. This sounds like a serious condition that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. Your veterinarian will perform a full physical exam and determine what additional testing may need to be done (xrays, bloodwork) to give you a better idea of what treatments are needed. Good luck.

Hello. I would recommend taking Frankie to your vet to first of all do a test for tick diseases. Sometimes they can get quite sick quickly, other times they can have a smoldering disease with no specific symptoms & mild lameness., very similar to what you are describing with Frankie. Even if you have not seen a tick on her, this is a very good place to start. The test requires a few drops of blood & your vet probably can run it in her office.
