My dog lifts her leg when eating but doesn't limp. Is she hurt?

Dogs limp for the same reason we do, because it hurts to use it. If this continues more than a few days then I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian. He really needs to see a vet. You didn’t mention if it was a front leg or hind leg. He could have a simple strain/sprain. It could be a genetic OCD lesion or hip dysphasia. It could be a torn CCL if it’s a back leg. There is no way for us to diagnose this via the internet. He needs to be examined by a vet in person. It sounds like he’s in pain and that’s why he’s not eating.

Hello, thank you for your question about Yusi. It is possible that this could be benign and could be a comfortable position for Yusi to eat in. It is also possible that she is favoring one leg because of discomfort/pain. However, if this was the case I would expect her to be limping or showing discomfort while walking or during other parts of the day. If this is the case I would recommend having Yusi seen by a veterinarian to help assess for any bone pain or other abnormalities. She could have some arthritis in her hips, a loose knee cap, or a strain/sprain. You could have your vet examine her to determine the cause. Your vet can take an X-ray, if needed, to help diagnose and the determine the best way to treat. She may need an anti-inflammatory to treat.

Hello. More than likely this is a soft tissue injury, possibly even a ligament sprain or tear. Your veterinarian can sometimes determine where the injury is ( hip, knee or foot ) & may recommend a through examination under sedation to obtain diagnostic x-rays at the same time. Regardless, Tudos needs pain medication to manage his discomfort. Until you can have him seen, rest him as much as possible by confining him, only allowing enough leash walking for outdoor eliminations. It is best to get your pet evaluated by a vet who can do a lameness exam to localize where the problem is on the leg. They will be able to recommend the appropriate treatment, whether it is just anti-inflammatory medication or potential surgery if the injury is involving the ligament. Many dogs will appear to act completely normal with a knee ligament injury.
